Charles (Joe)'s Story

Where do I begin? I know many of my old classmates remember me for my 'problem with authority'! So let me add a bit more and hopefully you will recall my name for other reasons then that. :-) I currently live in a small town between Hutchinson and Mankato, called Gaylord. Might as well call it Mayberry! Nice little town and the cities is only 50 minutes away. When I left high school (two weeks short of graduating) I hitchhiked out west with two friends. We made it to Wyoming and decided to stop there for a while. I worked at a gas station but quickly realized that there were far too many rednecks for me! I returned and went to school that fall in Willmar. I made it thru the first year of Machine Shop at an AVTI, but I was still a party animal. I did work in the Machine tool field for a few years as it seemed to come naturally to me. I was continually reminded of my problem with authority but finally settled down and found my way. I went to a night school for two nights a week, for two weeks to finish and receive a high school diploma. Although this diploma was from Willmar Senior High, I will always think of Fisher as my high school. I returned to Tech school in 1982 and graduated with a 2 year degree in Electronics. I worked in the field till about 1996 when I begin tutoring at the tech school in EGF. I tutored Math and Computers for students that struggled with these classes. In 1997, I got a job as an Instructor at EGF in a brand new program they b...Expand for more
egan there. I worked at EGF for 6 years until the campus consolidated with Theif River and they closed my program because they felt it was a duplicate. I was NOT happy, but after leaving there, I have worked one year temp positions at other campuses such as Riverland College in Austin, MN. Ridgewater College in WIllmar, MN. And most recently, Hennepin Technical College in Brooklyn Park (suburb of MPLS). I am still looking for that permanent position to arise. One of the perks of teaching is tution waivers! So as I taught I converted my 2 year certificate in Electronics to an AAS, and I also picked up a Manufacturing Engineering degree along the way. Nothing beats teaching though, it is what I would choose to do it the rest of my life. I found I enjoy people contact and connecting with them. Teaching fills that need. I was married breifly in 1978 to 1980, but I was too young and immature and it didn't last. I never got around to having children, but love kids and worked as a Big Brother for a few years in Grand Forks. My brother John just had his 4th child and named him after me! I go and spoil his kids every chance I get! It is pretty hard to compress 30 years into a few paragraphs, but this is a summary. Oh, and I still have a problem with authority, as any of my Adminstrators can attest to! But I can keep a handle on it now.! :-) I am currently a full time tudent again and I am loving it. I would love to hear from anyone who cares to write. Take care!
