Charles's Story
My classmates would know me by Charles Johnson. I was an Army brat for ten years from 1975 to 1985. During that time my mother, Mabel Bennett Johnson, step father Herbert Johnson and I travelled to Army bases in Berlin, Germany; Fort Gillem, Georgia; and Fort Meade, Maryland. I attended Jewel C. Anderson Elementary School in Georgia and Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade, Maryland. I was part of a break-dancing group during my freshman and sophmore years of high school called the Eclipse. I graduated high school in 1987. I went on to attend Anne Arundel Community College and then Towson State University majoring in criminal justice. I graduated from TSU in 1992. In July of '92 I travelled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to find a job and settle down but no luck occurred with the job hunt. I ended up joining the Army in October of '92 as an Aircraft Electrician. a. I served my first year overseas in South Korea at K-16 Seoul Airbase. Where I met my ex-wife. I went on to U.S. Army Warrant Officer Rotory Wing flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama. I achieved my dream of becoming a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot, receiving my wings but was soon medically retired due to recurrent heat injuries. I never got the chance to fly operationally. I had two beautiful daughters from my first marriage named Kiah and Tamika who are now 13 and 9 years old. After leaving the Army on a medical retirement, we moved to Australia. My ex-wife and two daughters now live in Adelaide, South Australia. I remarried in December 2004 to Kassia Brooke Bennett and have two beautiful children from this marriage, Cuba Ray and Ebony Sky Bennett. We now live in Canberra, Australia and working for the Australian Customs Service. Prior to this I served as a Queensland State Police Officer for four years. All up, I've been living in Australia now for almost ten years.
