Graduated Central High School located in Mobile, Alabama in 1959. Attended Dillard University briefly, graduated Alabama State University with a BS Degree in 1966. Earned an LLB Degree in 1975, LaSalle University. Earned an MA Degree in 1984, University of Phoenix.
Employed in 1968 by the National Education Association of Washington, DC for 30 years, having multiple titles, but primarily as a Union Field Representative.
While employed by NEA, negotiated collective bargaining contracts, on behalf of public school teachers with their employers (school boards); coordinated teacher strikes against their employers; coordinated collective bargaining representation elections on behalf of NEA local union affiliates against their competing union(s); organized local teacher union members to support and vote for NEA endorsed political candidates running for office at the local, state and national levels of government; served in various interim executive ...Expand for more
union positions with NEA affiliated local unions and state unions, when vacancies occurred, until those vacancies were filled; Successfully settled numerous arbitration cases on behalf of union members; represented teacher unions in resolving disputes with school boards through either, negotiations, mediation and arbitration or work stoppages; and performed in many other capacities, on behalf of NEA, for its members. Literally, had to fly commercial airlines to work. Worked in every state in the United States except North and South Dakota.
Have asserted, defended and promoted the interests and rights of school teachers, individually and collectively, in courtrooms and boardrooms throughout America.
Currently retired. Occasionally have performed consulting work in arbitration, political and union organizing and/or contract negotiations.
Member of Sigma Rho Sigma Honor Society (ASU) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Playing golf is the preferred pastime.
