Charles's Story
Life
After leaving the military in 1987, I attended Appalachian State University. I graduated in 1991 with a BS in Computer Science. I currently work as a IT Manager for Compass Group, North America Division. I graduated with my MBA from Belk College of Business at UNCC in May 2006. I am newly single again.
School
I entered High School as a small kid that made good grades. I didn't date much and I was kind of a geek. I partied to fit in at first then I found I liked it. I left school as a small kid that had an attitude and wanted to jump out of airplanes and kill people.
College
I began ASU right out of the military. I was 21 and living in the freshman dorms. That was a step up from the barracks. I had fun in college and managed to graduate in 4 1/2 years with a Computer Science degree. I am finally done with my MBA with a concentration in Information Technology Management.
Workplace
For the past 15 years I have been involved in software development in one form or another. I started out as a developer and for most of the past 11 years have been in management. The management experiences I have ha...Expand for more
d are varied and range from project management, management of consulting practices, development team management and IT management.
What I have most enjoyed about my work is building teams that can leverage business and technical skills to build processes and systems that create positive change in organizations. My current team is an example. My team contains systems analysts, business analysts, developers, project managers and the Compass Group EDI Manager.
I am particularly proud of my latest project. This project result was an application and processes that allowed a labor reduction of ~6,000 hours of manual data entry per quarter. In addition, the data being collected as part of project is more accurate and has been used in audits to collect over a million dollars in rebates to date.
Military
I joined the military right out of high school. I went to basic training and advanced individual training at Ft. Sill, OK. I then went to jump school at Ft. Benning, GA. I was assigned to the 18th Airborne Corps at Ft. Bragg, NC. I served in a field artillery battalion for three years and left to attend college.
