Charles's Story

Originally from Shreveport, LA, Chuck grew up in south Texas. His religious upbringing took place as a Southern Baptist at First Baptist Church, Ingleside, TX. Chuck began taking piano lessons at about age 7 from Mrs. Ford. He taught himself to play the guitar at age 14. In high school he sang in a Christian folk group called H.I.S (He Is Savior) singing all over south Texas. After graduating from Ingleside High School in 1972 Chuck entered college as a Music Major with an emphasis in Voice. After one year at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Chuck transferred to Gulf Coast Bible College [currently, Mid-America Christian University, OKC] located in Houston. While at GBC Chuck played in the Christian rock band, Theophilus, and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. for the college and for their own ministry. Upon degree completion Chuck and wife, Julie, moved to Sylacauga, Alabama as Minister of Music/Youth at the First Church of God. After one year they moved back to Houston and son, Aaron, was born. Shortly after Aaron was born they moved to Asheboro, North Carolina to work as a bi-vocational minister of music with Chimney Lane Church of God. This would last for about 16 years and daughter, Rachel, would be born. The church house band, Last Days Light Band, ministered in many cities and neighboring states. Chuck worked various jobs to support the family, including a furniture factory roll out man, grocery store Assistant Manager, insurance salesman, solar hot water fabricator, self-employed musician and teacher, and a sales represen...Expand for more

In August they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and began full time ministry with Southpark Community Church as Minister of Music/C.E. He was ordained with the Church of God in 1996. Also in 1996 Chuck took the position of Minister of Music/Youth with Bossier City First Church of God in Bossier City, Louisiana. This was an opportunity to work with Julie¿s brother, Richard Watson and took the family back to Chuck¿s roots. In 1999 Chuck began a solo career and ministered in various churches and states. He also came on staff with the First Church of God in Shreveport. In September, 2000, Chuck and Julie moved to Oklahoma City and began work with the First Church of God in Moore. Rachel was attending Mid-America Christian University and Aaron was completing his degree at John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. FCG changed their name to Fresh Start Community Church. Chuck is currently the Senior Associate/Worship Pastor of this dynamic church.
