Charlie's Story
After graduating from PHHS, I went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1983. Returned to Jersey for a few weeks after graduation before accepting my first job and moving to Texas to serve as editor of a twice-weekly newspaper in the small town of Denver City, Texas. After a couple of years there, moved to Lubbock, Texas, to be a sports writer for a daily newspaper. ege relations assistant, before working for a major medical journal for a couple of years and completing my master's degree at Texas Tech University. Then went back to the daily newspaper as a medical writer, before the opportunity came along to teach journalism full-time at South Plains College. Added responsibilities of chairman of the Communications Department and received the college's Faculty Excellence Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a faculty member, in 2012. I retired in December, 2021, and remain in West Texas.
