Charlotte Gallagher:

CLASS OF 1965
Hellertown, PA

Charlotte's Story

I always wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right, because I was too emotional. I feel so much better when I exercise, and I do it quite often. The wildest thing that I did in school was to sneak behind the curtain in the auditorium and do some kissing! My hero is my husband, who has inspired me to grow, when I thought I was too old to grow anymore. I've lived within 6 miles of the place I was born my whole life; having grown up in Steel City, I now live in Hellertown, only a few blocks from the school from which I graduated. My Mother-in-law now resides in Saucon Valley Manor, in what I believe was my bookkeeping classroom. Our family doctor is in the basement where our gym was. Someday, I see me moving back there. How hilarious is that! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Robert Keller, because I loved him at the time. I love animals, having had an assortment through the years. I only have an army of cats right now, and a few fish in the pond outside; but I've had chickens, goats, crows and squirrels. Dogs, especially big ones, like German Shepherds, until I moved to a small lot in Hellertown. I also like to garden; and have a small greenhouse, and about 200 houseplents th...Expand for more
at I have to move indoors for the winter. I give a lot of plants away that I can't bring into the house, because I'm told I have a really green thumb. My biggest surprise has been that it's still possible to grow at this stage in life. It's been a better life than I expected. Thankfully, my health has been fine, and I find that I can do whatever I want to do. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a Florida Room. My dream home would be all glass and solar powered, with plants and ponds everywhere. I would love to see Mr. Pearson again. I was doing so badly in Algebra I, and he said that it was because I had discovered boys. I would like to tell him he was right. To be truly happy, I'd be right here, doing what I'm doing with my husband nearby. My current age is 62. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be really old, or probably dead. I was so completely wrong. We are working harder now that we're retired, but it is so rewarding to know that you can still contribute at this stage in life. Oddly enough, my first crush is still in the area and a part of my life. I now live only about two blocks from where he lived when I met him. My best friend would tell you I'm special, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as weird.
