Charlotte's Story
Life
I retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS) Program, National Wildlife Research Center in Fort Collins Colorado as an information technology specialist and training coordinator in December 2007.
Among other activities, I am a member and former Clerk of the Fort Collins Friends Meeting. (I grew up as a Presbyterian and became a Quaker in 1976.) Currently, I serve on the Ministry and Counsel Committee of the Meeting.
Previously I have been an active volunteer in the USDA Partnership in Education program (at Irish Elementary School) and as an English as a Second Language and bilingual tutor. I am also active in Women for Peace and Justice, and Youth and Militarism. I am an active member of the Fort Collins Not In Our Town Alliance and serve as its Vice Chair. I am also on the Board of Directors of Reflections for Youth, a youth residential mental health treatment non-profit organization. I serve as the First Vice Chair of the Larimer County Democratic Party and I also serve on the Party'Âs Fundraising Events and Outreach Committees.

llege (1966). I became a fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology in 1988. My Ph.D. dissertation research was on Brazilian urban family structure in Minas Gerais. Our family also lived and worked in Peru from 1976 to 1979. Although I began my career in teaching and research at Texas Christian and Georgia State Universities, I worked for USDA in various capacities since 1981. In addition to my USDA jobs, I worked as a consultant on many types of international agricultural, nutritional, educational, evaluation and development projects worldwide, including work in Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, France, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Costa Rica. I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
My husband Rob Werge (also retired) and I have three grown children, Ingrid Werge, Tom Werge and José Cañas, and a grandson, Josecito. José teaches Spanish at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville MD. Tom is a Law Student at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Ingrid completed an MSW degree in May 2007 at Simmons University in Boston, MA and is now working for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Providence, RI as a Mental Health Counselor. Josecito lives in OÂ'Fallon Missouri and is in second grade for the 2007-2008 school year.
