Cherie Harwood's Story
Life
I'm living in Redding CA. My 5 sons are grown. All of them are happily married. I have12 Grandchildren, 6 girls and 6 boys .. I work at Shasta meadows school and teach First grade. My husband Jon teaches 4th grade in the same district. We have a cozy house and a wonderful swimming pool. In the Summer we have lots of parties there. We also get together with our famlies for a reunion each year along the coast. We all rent a big house. I like to garden, do yoga, walk, decorate, watch American Idol, so you like to dance, and the Free Speech channel, plan fun things to do in my classroom, and now play with my grandbabies. My husband and I plan to retire in 2 years. We will then just have fun for the rest of our lives. 2009 I've retired!
School
It's funny how time erases so many memories. I do remember a boy named Randy. I liked him in 5th grade and then moved. I met him again in high school. I moved a lot when I was school...Expand for more
age so it was great to come across him again. We dated and he went off to college. I heard later that he had 5 sons just like me.
I also remember the fun I had with my friends. I wonder if anyone out there remembers when we painted the boys block bench pink and put bows all over it. That was considered wild at the time. Hard to believe these days.
College
I was a single parent for 12 years before I met my now husband of 22 years. We met in college when I was 43. Our friendship became a romance. He is still the greatest. We both are teachers in the same school district. We have 8 children between us. It's quite an adventure--life.
Workplace
I love teaching my first graders, but I don't like all the pressure put on my teaching to get the kids to work beyound their current abilities. This no child left behind is pushing teachers to teach to the test. No teacher I know likes it. I still try to instill values but it's getting harder.
