Chip's Story

I'll start after high school graduation... I went to Eastern Kentucky University for the party, not for the GPA. Graduated (at my father's request) from EKU in 1985. By then my folks had moved from Versailles (back) to Chicago to New Hampshire (They are back in Chicago now). I started working for Digital Equipment Corp in Boston as a consultant in '86. I began working on my MBA (New Hampshire College) and realized I really liked to learn. Due to my transfer to the midwest and the heavy travel demand I only earned about 3/4 of the credits I needed for my masters. I didn't get the 'skin, I did get to see the country... DEC relocated me to Cincinnati in 1990, about the time my first nephew was born in Lexington, KY. I have been able to be a part of my Sister Debbie and her husband Jay's family (Matt, Ben, and Caroline), which has been nice. We is tight. My (then) girlfriend (Kendra) moved from NH to Cincinnati a year later, in 1991. We married in 1993. In 1992 I started working in New York City (Mid-Town Manhattan) for the next 18 months (Monday thru Friday) from Cincinnati. While Kendra loved having full control of the TV remote, it wasn't good for our relationship. Digital wanted me to move to NYC, and that wasn't going to happen so I left Digital in 1994 to work for a different computer company; ENTEX Information Services. I was asked to help start a training division in 1995 (and did). Governor G. Voinovich recognized the team I managed for being one of the five best training departments in Ohio in 1998. I left ENTEX in 1999 to work on the executive team of a NTRA thoroughbred racetrack, Turfway Park, reporting to a college friend and former coworker of Kendra. It's was a blast! As General Manager I never know the next challenge that will pop up at the racetrack. Besides, what other job lets you ride your own horse during a work day? In 2011 my friend/boss left and I was given his job. There is no greater feeling than leading a KENTUCKY Thoroughbred Race Track. It is a huge honor to play a role in the history of Kentucky horse racing... Kendra and I started off as good friends for years before we dated. In 1988 we actually both had a dream, within a few days of each other, that we had twins together. We had a running joke with our friends about our (make believe) twins. Imagine the weirdness of actually having twin...Expand for more
s together twelve years later! While the twins dream was our greatest dream-come-true, it has only been one of many for Kendra and I. Nick is going to attend his grand fathers alma mater in the fall of 2018 (Loyola of Chicago) and Emma is going to attend the Miami of Ohio University equestrian team. Kendra is a vice president for Wells Fargo Bank, and is the smart one in the family. She was first in her class for her MBA, made an appearance in the Wall Street Journal, and runs the show at home. As you can probably tell from this, I am very proud of her. Kendra was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2015 and after months of chemo, radiation, multiple surgeries, she is presently cancer free. Never new how strong a person I married until I witnessed her battle the disease. The kids both learned from the experience too and are empathetic people that understand how the world can totally change after one doctors visit. We had our kids, Nick and Emma, in May of 2000 (with a little help from science). They are pictured in various poses. They are great human beings! We are incredibly lucky. I get to spend every day with my best buddy, my angel, and my best friend. Throw into the mix a few King Charles Spaniel named Pepper, a Plott Hound/Doberman mix named Hershey, and an orange snake named "Snape" and you have our entire clan. My little sister Nicole and her husband Thom relocated to Cincinnati in 2000 from Philly. She has since had two little kids (Tim and Daniel) so our entire family has been able to remain very close. All the kids from Lexington and Cincinnati all know and love their cousins. I can honestly say that whatever road led me to today, I am glad I took the turns I did that landed me where I am. I could not be any happier. I am blessed and thank god (whoever that is) everyday... Although I know times will not always be perfect and health and/or financial fortunes can change, I will always feel like I won the most important lottery in life. For all I was given thus far I will be forever grateful regardless of what the future brings. I still talk to most of my boyz from high school & college. I am still active with the WCHS Soccer team alumni. If you are ever in Cincinnati, or Turfway Park (in Florence Kentucky) give me a ring... We are "empty nesters" and couldn't be enjoying the house to ourselves more!
