Chris's Story

Just published my first book! "Secrets of Backyard Bird Photography" with Rocky Nook Publishing. It is available on Amazon and other fine book sellers as well as for Kindle and E-book. It has been getting great reviews on Amazon. It would make a great Christmas present for a photographer or birder you may know or just buy it for yourself. You can say. Hey, I know the guy that wrote this book. I'm semi-retired so I have time to fish. I have a beautiful family of course. Doesn't everyone say that about their family? My wonderful wife Lenore of over 30 years years. Two children. Jay 20 and Annika 18 .Both great kids. (don't we all say that about our kids?) Many of you can relate to that. Pet wise we have a huge yellow Lab 105 lbs. named Lance. Loves to slobber on everyone or put hair on them. don't wear black around him! Badger the wonder dog, a Border Collie Spanish King Cavalier rmix He is a lovable coward and one cat. Mr. Mango the cat has a goatee. Yes really a goatee! The latest edition is Paaya going along with the fruit theme. She is a Siamese cross that is an outside cat for reasons we don't need to go into. We live in the small town of Willits, California. It's composed of about five thousand odd people. Yes, many are odd. Drugs do that to you. The town is up in the redwoods and mountains of northern California. We live on a mountain top roughly six miles out of town. There are very few people up here. Growing pot is a major industry. Why do you think I'm retired? No actually I was a science and math teacher for many years and I'm retired on disability from job stress. Any one out there who was or is a teacher can probably relate to that. In answer to the question. I don't grow pot or smoke it. It would be great if they legalized it so the price would drop and all my neighbors would stop growing it. Make it much safer that way! If you want to find Willits we are the very first stop light 2 1/2 hours north of San Francisco on Highway 101. The only person from the class of '75 to ever visit me was Dan Burke. He has come and stayed a few times. A Good friend. That weiner Eric Wahler was nice enough to visit me in California twice but he never came to my house.I visited him in Montana. Great place to live. I'm a Christian and have a strong faith in Jesus. He is my savior. I came to believe that he is a power greater than myse...Expand for more
lf when I narrowly missed being killed while on a hking/climbing trip in the Yosemite back country. It took awhile but eventually I turned my life over to him. Life is still a struggle at times but I always know I can turn to him in times of trouble. No matter what you or I have done Jesus will always forgive us no matter how bad it is. For he died on a cross to pay for our sins. It's very simple. He who believes in Jesus Christ as their savior will spend eternity in heaven with him. My main fun as you can see from my pictures is that I love photography. Bragging part here. I have had five covers on magazines and a lot of my work used for inside articles as well. I really love the outdoors as do many of us that grew up near the Rockies. So I make use of a lot of the trails around where I live. I also love to fish and flail the water with abandon for salmon and steelhead to no avail. It's great to just get out and enjoy the woods. What I miss about Colorado the most is the fall colors and the warm evenings, thunderstorms and yes, sometimes the snow. Although it does snow here. A few years back we had over two feet, though most winters it only snows maybe two to eight inches. By the way most Californians cannot. I repeat cannot drive in the snow! Whenever I drive anywhere after a snowstorm here there are always people spun off of the road. I miss the warm summer evenings of Loveland during the summer. We don't get to many warm evenings here. The fog rolls in off of the ocean and brings it down to 55 degrees rather quickly. We rarely get thunderstorms here so when we do I am glued to the window watching it happen. Have I changed much? Well yes and no. I have a lot less hair. It's gray too. I'm fatter around the middle and working on it. I work out as much as I can during the week. I still love nature and all kinds of critters. (especially photgraphing them) I still love to read. Either curled up in the living room by the woodstove or in bed. For those of you that knew me I'm basically still a pretty calm, easy going guy. Haven't changed a whole lot in that respect. My wife Lenore or my kids may disagree with me on that one. Well enough rambling for now let me know how life and the Lord have been treating you. I'd be glad to hear what is going on in the world outside of my little section of it. God's light and love to all of you, Chris
