Chris's Story

Life My life is always in a state of change. After high school I joined the Illinois Air National Guard in Springfield and worked in the Flight Line Avionics shop. Basically fixed the things the pilots broke in F-16s. Concurrent to that I went to college, started out at Lincoln Land Community College then moved down to Southern Illinois University. I started there in 93 and finished in 97 (after taking some time off for internships and an active duty military stint in the Guard). While at SIU I met my wife, then girlfriend, Tracey. We were engaged in 1999 and married in 2000. From graduation from SIU to entering the active duty Air Force in Nov of 98 I worked at Boeing in St Louis as an engineer. U...Expand for more
pon entering active duty I went to Officer Training School in Alabama then off to Pilot Training in OK. I earned my wings in Apr of 00 and went off to water and land survival training before ending up in Phoenix to learn to fly the F-16 (same jet I worked on). After 8 months there we were stationed in Northern Japan for almost 3 years which was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. My wife taught English during the day and we traveled all over Asia on the weekends and vacation. In Feb 04 we were transferred to New Mexico for another 3 year assignment. It was here that our son Tyler was born. At the end of that tour we were sent to Phoenix to train other young pilots on how to fly the F-16.
