Chriss's Story
Life
My life has been quite a journey so far. I am single with no kids but certainly have ambition to reach that goal someday! I have worked at the Berrien County Sheriff's Department as a Communications Specialist since 1995 and promoted in 2005 as a 911 Supervisor of the Berrien County Public Safety Communications Center.
My passion has been working on genealogy and researching local history. An article I wrote on Fred "Killer" Burke has been featured in On The Spot Journal in the Fall of 2008 and in "The Informer, Journal of American Mafia History" in September of 2008. I also appear in an episode of "The History Detectives" on PBS during the 2009 season on the St. Valentine's Day Massacre shotgun; my national TV debut. I have an article appearing in Michigan History Magazine's July/August 2010 edition and another anticipated article on Gus Winkeler in October 2010 to run in "The Informer".
I enjoy helping people learn about their ancestry and celebrate the rich local history around us. In recent months, I've been researching for three different authors on vario...Expand for more
us historical topics and am the webmaster for the Berrien County Sheriff's Department webpage, specifically the history section. Log on to read some of my articles!
I'm a Severe Weather Spotter and spend 10 days each spring/summer in the Great Plains doing a Tornado Chase. In 2010, I saw 6 tornadoes in May.
School
I wish I would have paid more attention in history class!
College
Lake Michigan College 1986-1988, Associates of Arts Degree - Grand Valley State University 1988-1991, Bachelor of Science in Film/Video Production, Emphasis Audio Production
Workplace
I am currently a Supervisor at the Berrien County Public Safety Communications Center and 800 MHz radio instructor. My office is actually a 911 dispatch center and never a dull moment. When not earning a paycheck in the traditional way, I'm on the computer searching different websites for whatever I'm researching at the time. I very much enjoy sharing information with people. I've befriended several authors who I am now helping research for and I love being able to use my investigative skills in this way.
