Christie's Story
Life
After graduating from U of M and teaching at Grand Blanc Middle School for two years, I took the plunge in 2003 and accepted a teaching position at an international school in South Korea. I've been teaching English and Spanish to primarily English-speaking Korean students that are a pleasure to teach. For two years I lived north of Seoul, near Uijeongbu. I then moved south to Daejeon, where I teach at Taejeon Christian International School. I love it here; it's a wonderful community! Hard to believe it's now my 7th year teaching, and I'm now teaching full-time Spanish, World Language Dept. co-chair, and head cross-country coach to a team of 65 kids!
Pastimes:
- Practicing the Korean language
- Meeting new people
- Traveling (since moving here, I've been to China, Japan, Thailand, Phil...Expand for more
lipines, Vietnam, India, Australia, New Zealand, Bali, and Germany and Austria)
- Running (ran my first marathon in Seoul last March!)
- Singing
- Writing in my journal
However, it's unfortunate that my pastimes get pushed aside because I'm also working towards my Masters in Language Education from Indiana University, which I just realized that I'm only 3-4 classes away from finishing! FINALLY!
I'll be in Korea for one more year at least, then who knows? Not me. All I know is that I am really enjoying my current school, where I feel I'm growing both professionally and spiritually. After I'm finished here, I just don't know whether I'll return to the U.S. or move on to South America or Central/Eastern Europe. Decisions, decisions... but I do feel blessed to have the options! Exciting!
