Christopher's Story
After high school I attended and graduated from the University of Maine with a dual major B.S. Chemistry and Biology and a minor in math. The math thing was definately ironic.
After college 1980, I went to work at Great Northern Paper Comapny in the Engineering and Research Department performing environmental impact work for the Big "A" Hydro Project. I was transferred to the mill and became a process engineer.
In 1985, I got married to Lorri Davis of Millinocket. In 1987, we had our first child, Kylie. In 1989, we had our second, Adam.
During the late 80's the company started to scale back and I left the company and went to work for Signal Sherman Energy Company. This was a biomass plant that generated electricty for Maine Public Service. I obtained my 1st Class Engineer's license.
In 1989, I left Signal Sherman to get back into the paper industry. I went to work at International Paper Company in Jay. There, I was in charge of operating their hydro stations, water treatment facilties and their wastewater facilities.
In 1990, Lorri's mom got sick and we moved back to Millinocket, where I ran the Town's wastewater facilities. The facility won an national award from the EPA, which was a very big deal.
In 1995, Great Northern Paper...Expand for more
was sold and the new owner started shutting paper machines down. We left Millinocket to settle in Boothbay Harbor.
I was recruited to start up the new wastewater facility and am now the superintendent of the sanitary district.
The "Harbor" is a great place to live and raise a family. Both, Kylie and Adam graduated from Boothbay Region. Both excelled in the classroom and in athletics.
Kylie attended the University of New England and is now performing behavioral drug interaction research at Maine Medical Center. She has been accepted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to continue her masters work.
Adam is currently attending Clarkson University, in upstate New York, as a chemical engineering student.
Lorri and I are now empty nesters. We are still in Boothbay Harbor with our dog Lakota. This is such a beautiful area. We love the outdoors and especially our golfing and motorcycle riding.
I have gone back to school and have been taking classes towards my masters degree in environmental engineering. Once that is done, I hope to obtain my professional engineer's license and start my own consulting firm.
I don't know if we will retire here, but we certainly enjoy it.
Would love to hear from other's from our class.
