Chuck's Story
Life
After graduating from veterinary medical school (Ohio State), I moved to California to pursue an internship training program at the University of California (Davis). After that year I decided to stay in California and enter private practice. I now own a small animal veterinary hospital in Southern California with 5 doctors and a staff of 25. I have never married (by choice). By growing up in the 60's I embraced the social "rebel" lifestyle, although long term relationships are important to me. Barb and I have been together since 1997. I have no children (also by choice). Currently I work 2 days a week and consider myself semi-retired. We travel a lot, play a lot of golf and generally enjoy being together.
School
I was the "smart guy" in my class and the one who dated only 1 girl. I sang in the choir, played in the band and took an active role in HiY (YMCA). I never missed a Sunday in Church for 7 years and took guitar lessions regularly for as many years. I am very successful toda...Expand for more
y, so I guess being anally retentive isn't all bad ;-)
College
Hard to believe that I went to an all men's college, but at the time "the best" education was a priority. It was a private college with fewer total students then my high school class graduating class. I was so focused on studies that I missed out on a lot of regular college activities. I wish I had been more sociable, more of a joiner than a loner. Kenyon College was merely a stepping stone to graduate school, i.e, Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine (1970-74).
Workplace
I am the owner of Laguna Hills Animal Hospital, in Orange County (Southern) California. I purchased the hospital in 1983. I co-ordinate the management activites of a staff of over 25 dedicated animal health care workers. I also work as a small animal doctor 2 days a week. I truly enjoy this career choice, although it is much more stressful than I ever thought it would be when I decided (at age 15) that I wanted to become a veterinarian.
