Clare's Story
Life
Went to UNCG for one semester. Joined the Navy. Ended up in Florida. Met my first husband. Had my only child, a son, right away (1973). Left husband #1 and moved to Orlando. Got into the typesetting/graphic arts/printing industry. Met husband #2. Divorced #1 and married #2. Son grew up and married. I have the best daughter-in-law on the planet. Also the best granddaughter and grandson. Moved to the Atlanta area in 1996. Still printing, etc. Moved back to NC in July 2007 to take care of my mom who has Parkinson's. Military
Joined the Navy on a dare from 2 good buddies and then freaked them out when I actually joined. Also, long history of Navy people in my family. Went to boot camp in March ...Expand for more
of 1971 - Bainbridge, same place my dad went in WWII. I think we had the same bunk. My company was in the old barracks. Can't remember our number, but our CC was SK1 Capers. Peggy Neff was our RCPO and I was our ARCPO. Sure do wish I'd hear from some of the old gang!! Beatrice Doss was the best, most creative cadence-caller in the history of the Navy. I went to Personnel School in Orlando and met a guy TAD from Norfolk that I nearly married. Got assigned to Ellyson Field in Pensacola and met the guy I DID marry. Got out of the Navy after only a year and a half. Had a son. Got divorced. Shoulda ditched the dude and kept the Navy. Oh well - 20-20 hindsight, right? Doesn't work - I married another sailor - a Nuke - in 1986 and so far, I'm keeping him. I really had a blast in boot camp and everywhere else I went.
