Clifford's Story
My Kindergarten memories persist in my mind, somewhere, but the few that I can actually recall reveal a nasty little kid. One day the girl behind me informed the teacher that I was scribbling on my paper. The teacher led me to the cloak room where I was to sit until allowed back into classroom. Instead, I put on my snowsuit and headed home. My mother discovered me playing out back in the cornfield.
I directed the school rhythm band for a time, making use of wild arm motions that I invented at home while directing the NBC symphony orchestra (on the ...Expand for more
radio). My best and worse memories from kindergarten days were playing with Willard Thompson, and throwing a rock at his sister, Margaret, that hit her right between the eyes.
My father was the minister of the first Baptist Church. My mother taught piano lessons. One of my brothers, Wallace, was in high school. The other, Hartley, was in the upper grades. We lived across the street from the park on 4th (I think).
Now I'm 85 years old, and have lived here in Tucson with my wife for 34 years. Sometime I will post a photo from my kindergarten days.
