Colleen's Story
After high school, I got my bachelor's degree in psychology at KU and a master's in education there too. Then I worked 38 years for the State of Kansas as a Human Services Specialist determining eligibility for Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Public Assistance. In my 38 years, I was a worker, trainer, supervisor, and fraud analyst. I tell people I have a bachelor's in red tape and a master's in food stamps. I was hired back as a fraud analyst November 2022 after my old boss called me several times to "highly encouraged" me to apply when the position opened up in the East Region. There are only four fraud analysts in the state. So soon I'll be at 40 years. If Moses can do it in the desert, I can stick it out at DCF.

accomplished photographer and have won several themed contests. I have an online gallery which can be found by googling my name. My hobbies are crossword puzzles and learning all I can about the Titanic and Mt. Everest.
I've been to Mozambique and South Africa when I volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, I was also one of the disaster food stamp workers in Baton Rouge days after Katrina. Both trips changed me.
Both of my parents have passed. Sometimes I wish I could go into the past to be with them as they were in the 60's. I would reassure my younger self to be more confident and trusting in myself and be remembered as the 'mysterious aunt' that showed up one day and made a huge impact. Maybe that already happened.
