Connie's Story

Life I was Born in The Pas,09/28/1961 lived there until I was 3 then we moved to Thompson ,Mb. I Started Kindergarten-Gr.3 in Thompson at Westwood Elementary, then moved back to The Pas,Finished off Elementary and Jr.High and High School there. Graduated in 1981.I moved back to Thompson to work At Ollie's Hair Salon,the strike hit and I came back to work for Ross Dechambault at Ubalds Hair Salon. Got married in the Summer, July 17/1982 in The United Church in The Pas in a dbl wedding with my sister Bonnie. Left and moved up to Thompson again with my husband where he works for INCO Metals as an Industrial Mechanic..Been married for 28 yrs and I have 2 children, Daughter: Stephanie aged 27 Born December 24/1982 9lbs 4 oz... Son: Tyler aged 25 Born January 30/1985 9lbs 1 oz... Steph graduated in 2000 from High School (RD.Parker Collegiate) I retired from Hairdressing after 21 yrs, I owned my own Salon,which was the last wish I had before I finally retired the profession..My last job was a Studio Rep for Mosiac international and Merchandising Rep for News Marketing Canada. Have finally taken a break and fully retired from the work force, to fix up my house and get it ready to put on the market..November 24/2009, was the last day for my husband at Vale-Inco retiring after 30 years service..We moved away to South Western Manitoba to our new home in Elgin, Mb and have been there since. School Started School in Thompson: Mennonite Church for Kindergarten, Westwood Elementary school for grades 1-3.. Moved to The Pas in the spring of 1970 Started school at Opasquia until grade 7,before Scott Bateman was built..Went over to the new Junior High to complete 7 & 8 Grades 9-12 completed at Margret Barbour Collegiate Vocational Graduate th...Expand for more
rough MBCI and Keewatin Community College Grades 10-12 as a Cosmetology Major. Graduated 1981 at MBCI as a Vocational Graduate, the only graduate in 10 years for both . College Took a Vocational Major through MBCI. Started Cosmetology program with Mr.Todd, the Instructor in grade 10 in the first Trimester.09-12/77 Grade 11 had to go back in the first Semester to redo most of what I had been taught in the first 3 months of grade 10..09-01/78(exempt in most of the course until we came to subjects I should know) Grade 12 completed the Cosmetology program in the Second Semester of MBCI and took the Provincial Exam..02-06/80 Had to return to MBCI for part of the next year for 2.5 credits that I was missing..09-01/81 Recieved Hairdressing license and Diploma from KCC in July of the same year. Workplace Hm..Where do I begin with this one...lol Started working in Hair Salons as a Shampoo girl since I was 14..worked for Sandra on Edwards ave...did a stint at the Dutch Drive Inn for the summer..Worked at the Voyager Restaurant..Back to working at the Hair Salons when I was 15and 16 for The New You on Fisher Ave..Moved over to Shirley's Styling Station with Shirley Harvel to work for her part time as a Shampoo Girl.. Worked as a waitress at the Laverandrye Hotel in the Dining room and Lounge..Had a blast at the Dial Electric selling tapes and car stereos..Helped out as a Shampoo girl at Shirley's Stying Station for graduation in 1981.. Left The Pas.... Worked for Sandra Close in Thompson for Ollie's and Ronnie's Hair Salon, came back during INCO strike in the same year and found work at Ubald's on Fischer ave. Got married following year and moved back to Thompson. Worked at numerous hair salons in Thompson after that.. Now I'm retired.
