Craig's Story

After leaving Annandale HS I went to the University of Michigan in Nuclear and Electrical Engineering. Started working for Ford in Labor Relations from there, (Jimmy Carter had killed the Nuclear Power industry by then, so no new nuclear power plants). Worked at Ford for close to 20 years at several different facilities in SE Michigan. I was married in 1979 for 23 years and had four children. Seeing the writing on the wall for the car industry, I left Ford and began working at the University of Michigan Medical Center as a Project Coordinator in Information Technology in 1998. I am currently supporting the entire Medical Center Complex on the midnight shift to allow me to coach my youngest daughter's travel soccer team and assist with the state's largest track program in Saline, Michigan where I have lived since 1987. Having 12 years between my oldest and youngest daughters, I have been involved in the athletics in Saline for over 15 years and loved every minute of it. All my children have shared my passion for sports and have been extremely active throughout their school years. Over the years, I have remained physically active in man...Expand for more
y sports which probably explained me having to have my right hip replaced in October 2008 and will have the left hip replaced this coming January 15th. The results from the first surgery is amazing. By this summer I will be playing tennis again and jogging. Luckily I under went a new type of procedure which only resurfaces the femur and pelvic bone to accept metal implants and is called the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System. They don't remove the top of the femur as in the total hip replacement. Really neat stuff. If you know anyone with degenerative hip disease don't let them wait. Get it done as soon as possible so they can return to a normal lifestyle with normal mobility. Not being active was not an option, so I jumped at the opportunity to undergo this procedure. In my spare time, which isn't all that prevalent, I spend it with my daughter Michelle and her activities, and frequently go to a wide variety of sporting events at the University of Michigan. Ann Arbor is truly a unique place to live and is rated the #1 place to retire. Brrr! I think that's only in the Spring, Summer and Fall though. The winters can be brutal..
