Curt's Story

Life After graduation I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in creative writing at Arkansas Tech University, and then I got my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Arkansas. I took some time off from academia and worked as a claims adjustor for Hartford Insurance in L.A., and I ran an auto parts store in Arkansas and the San Fernando Valley outside Los Angeles, and that is where I met my wife in 1988. We married, and we had a daughter in 1989 and again in 1991. We lived in the Mojave Desert outside L.A., where I taught college English at Antelope Valley College, Bakersfield College, and College of the Canyons until we moved to Arkansas in 2003. When we moved to Arkansas, we built a house across the road from ...Expand for more
my parents and down the road from my sister, and we now live on over 200 acres adjacent to the largest state park in Arkansas. Every morning, deer graze in our front yard, and bald eagles circle our house every winter. I am now a professor of English at NorthWest Arkansas Community College, and in the summers I am a guide at War Eagle Cavern. It feels great to spend these hot Arkansas summers underground in the cool (58 degree) cave. I also build banjos in my free time, and I've built instruments for some nationally-known players. In the late 90's I focused my writing on hypertext and published in the seminal New River magazine, but these days I am returning to traditional styles and am currently working on a book.

I've been remodeling my basement, and I ran across a box of memorabilia I have toted around since grad school back in the '80's. Tonight I found this great photo in a letter, and David had typed on the back of it, "Me shopp

Here's a call out to David Sanders, David Coy, Roger Martens, Keith Hubbard, and Al Al Maginnes. Today I met with the comp coordinator at the U of A in my role as interim Dean of the Communication and Arts Division at NWACC
Hey Marc, this is so true.
Except he kept waffling on "The Immigrant Song."

I showed y'all a photo of the St. Louis Arch from my hotel room Thursday. Now here's a photo of my hotel room from the top of the St. Louis Arch. It's in the building directly to the right of the construction zone in the mi
Here's another photo of the Arch from my hotel room with Mother Nature's arch behind it!
I showed my granddaughter, Eryn, the picture of us at the Arch, and she noticed the thing seemingly growing out of my head. She said that it's a picture of Papa having a big idea!

Here's a photo of a pretty good day. It's the latest issue of Riprap I received in today's mail with my poem, \"Insurance Trilogy,\" and the hand carved ebony tuning pegs I made for Jeff Menzies' gourd banjo.
