Curtis's Story

Life After graduating NSHS, I went to Texas A&M, in the corps of cadets and hated it. Life sucked and I slept through all of my classes. I left the corps after one semester and moved into a dorm with a really cool senior that partied a lot. “I can do that too” I said. He got a 4.0, I got a 2.1. So, I auditioned for and made (to my surprise) the Singing Cadets (which are not cadet’s, but they do sing, so… ) But I couldn’t keep my grades up enough to perform. So after three semesters, I thought “maybe I should try San Jac for a while.” So I moved back to Houston (my parents moved away 3 days after I left for A&M) and lived with a friend while I went to San Jac. I was still active in the fire department, and was interested in getting my EMT so I did, and worked at East Houston regional (sunbelt) Medical Center in the ER as a tech, 4 or 5 twelve hour night shifts a week, for almost a year and a half. I went on to work at Texas Children’s on the Kangaroo Crew (critical care transport ambulance) while working on my Paramedic at San Jac. I met a really wonderful woman while going to Paramedic school that was recently divorced, with two kids. ...Expand for more
So being 19 and invincible, I said “what the hell?” we dated and due to financial hardships ended up living together in a small rent house in Highlands. I helped her with her two boys Dennis and Jason who at the time where 2 and 6 months old. (I never claimed to be a smart man!) We helped each other through Paramedic school and then some. Our relationship of necessity grew into a true relationship of respect and love. We challenged each other and our selves and achieved more together than we ever could have apart. We moved up to Montgomery County where I went to work as a Paramedic and Alicia (sorry should have said her name sooner) Dispatched 911 for the county. She transferred out to an ambulance and we pursued our Critical Care Paramedic Certifications, and our Certified Flight Paramedic Certifications. I spent 5 years on an ambulance in east Montgomery County (Splendora, New Caney, Porter) and Alicia got hired as a flight Paramedic for PHI in Conroe. We bought a NEW house in Kingwood and finally got engaged this last Christmas. I know, I do things a little backwards. The Boys are now 6 and 8 and growing like weeds. That about sums it up!!
