CYNDY's Story

Life I spent the first half of my working life as a paralegal in Marin, Sonoma and Butte Counties. I returned to CSU, Chico in the late 1980s to earn my secondary teaching credentials, and am recently retired from teaching technology/keyboarding to middle school students and loved every minute of it. I've also worked as computer science adjunct faculty for two community colleges. I enjoy gardening, walking, cooking, fitness weight training, dancing and fishing and attend church regularly. I lived in the wonderfully small (774 pop.) Gold Country town of Mokelumne Hill in the northern California foothills in a small blue cottage with a white picket fence and a tuxedo kitty named Bo until August 2017 when we both moved to Hamilton, MT in the gorgeous Bitterroot Valley (aka "the banana belt") of southwestern Montana. The Last Best Place on earth! God's Country for sure. Workplace I worked as a legal secretary/paralegal from college graduation in 1972 (CSU, Chico) to 1988. During two of those years I worked for a CPA firm in Corte Madera, California; two famous clients were Bill Walton and Sara Jane Moore; those were interesting times. In 1988 I returned again to CSU, Chico to obtain my secondary teaching credentials in Business and Home Economics. I also started and operated Chico Box & Postal in Chico, California during some of the same years I was working full-time. My BS Degree in Business Admin has served me well my entire life; some of my students (see below) followed in my footsteps into amazing jobs in the business world. In 1989 I was taken kicking and screaming out of Chico to San Andreas for my first teaching assignment at Calaveras High School, teaching business and computer classes for the next nine years; loved every minute of those years and still keep a handful of students as on-line friends, even today. During my "reorganization years" of 1998-2001 and beyond, I was adjunct faculty in Computer Information Science for Columbia College and Cosumnes River College, returning full-time to Cal...Expand for more
averas Unified in 2001 to teach Adult Ed; from 2002 to 2006 I taught Alternative Ed (a unique experience), and then taught technology to middle school students at Toyon Middle School in Valley Springs, CA for my final nine teaching years; I retired in June 2015. Retirement is amazing; I highly recommend it! Thanks to the work of CDF and fire fighters from many states, our little town of Mokelumne Hill and all the other Calaveras small towns were saved from the Butte Fire of September 2015; I have more empathy for those who have experienced PTSD in their lives, since that horrifying experience of a scorching hot fall day, no power, and the Sheriff knocking on my door at 2:00 a.m. on a mandatory evacuation order; the sky outside was bright red with flames very, very near. Had my Jeep packed earlier in the evening, my cat in his carrier and all that really mattered with me, as I locked the front door and hoped for the best, as I stayed with friends in Jackson for several days. Over 500+ homes out in the countryside were not so fortunate; some teachers who had just retired with me lost everything they owned. We pressed on in this new season of "wildflowers from ashes", as our hills are covered with California poppies in full bloom. Just after Easter of 2016, I start a new position as part-time Church Administrator for the Creekside United Methodist Church (we combined Jackson and Sutter Creek UMCs) in Sutter Creek, CA. I've attended the Methodist Church since moving to the foothills in 1989. I also attend Church of the Nazarene; Sundays are my spiritual and physical well-being days as I head to the gym to workout after my church services. Late August 2017 I moved into a brand new home in Hamilton, MT, 3/10 of a mile from Canyons Athletic Club, where I've enjoyed spin class, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, and weight machines. I have been working out in health clubs since 1982 and never stopped loving the experience. And onward retirement goes...such a blessing! If you find yourself in SW Montana, contact me!
