Cynthia J.'s Story
Life
Cynthia Joanne (Stoutamyer) Wright was born at Kaiser Hospital in downtown Oakland, CA. She grew up in Oakland, has one sister (Andrea Laurel) and one brother (Scott David). Her parents are both deceased.
Cynthia played the violin and danced in the Oakland Christmas pageant during her early years. She sang in choir and was involved in the drama department in high school. Cynthia was a founding member of the Oakland Youth Chorus (OYC). She went to Merritt Junior College for one year out of high school.
Cynthia was raised in the Christian Church (DiscipleÂs of Christ) and has continued that affiliation throughout her life. Cynthia attended the First Christian Church of Oakland. She was baptized and joined the church there. Her participation in Oakland FCCÂs youth program (CYF) and choir were major influences in her life. Also important were summer church camps at the Community of the Great Commission, and summer tours with OYC.
She has been married since the early 1980s to Joe Wayne Wright, a career Navy man, he is the Command Master Chief of a Carrier Air Group at the Lemoore Naval Air Station. They have two adult children.
She served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for five years.
Cynthia and Wayne were stationed in Virginia for a time. Their children were both born there.
In the mid 1980s the family transferred to San Diego where they lived until recently. Cynthia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Cynthia was active in the Vista La Mesa Christian Church for 17 years, serving the church in several leadership roles. She also served the District and Regional church in various capacities.
The Wrights moved to Lemoore when Joe was transferred to the Lemoore Naval Air Station. They built a home in Lemoore. Cynthia is now attending the First Christian Church of Selma. She has been very active in her churchÂs local and regional leadership for most of her adult life.
A professional writer, Cynthia hopes to someday have more poetry and some short stories published. She belongs to a writerÂs group that is helping her pursue that end. She also belongs to a storytelling group and a womenÂs drumming circle.

Cynthia sang in choir and was involved in the drama department at Skyline, studying with Rawley T. Farnsworth and being inducted into the Thespian Society. She was a founding member of the Oakland Youth Chorus (OYC), a community chorus comprised of students from Oakland high schools, from 1974-1977.

Workplace
Cynthia Joanne (Stoutamyer) Wright is currently the Editor of The Lemoore Advance, the weekly newspaper of Lemoore, Calif., and the Kings County Business Sentinel, a monthly business magazine, in Hanford, CA. Prior to coming to the Sentinel she worked for the Selma Enterprise in Selma, CA as the city beat reporter. Her past experience includes writing organizational policies and procedures for a non-profit social service agency, editing technical manuals for a U.S. Navy contractor, and administrative work in the business field.
Military
Cynthia joined the U.S. Navy in 1977 and served on active duty in the Navy for five years. She entered on the "buddy System" with her friend Sharon Marshall. They went to boot camp in Orlando Florida and then were both transferred to VRC-40, a squadron based in Norfolk, VA. Cynthia attended Parachute Rigger Class 'A' school in Lakehurst, NJ. While stationed in Virginia, Cynthia met and began dating Joe Wayne Wright. In early 1980 Cynthia transferred to USNS Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico. Wayne soon transferred there as well. Cynthia attended Parachute Rigger Class 'C' school in Lakehurst while stationed in PR. She and Wayne were married in 1981 while stationed together in Puerto Rico. Released from active duty in the Navy in 1982, Cynthia continued in the Naval Reserve for about eight years after that.
