Dale E.'s Story

Life Dear Colleagues and Friends: I would like in a few words to share with you the major events of my life since Howard Payne. After graduating from HPU (it was HPC in those days), I taught choral music and general music one year in Brady, Texas before moving to Ballinger, Texas in 1967, where I taught choral music and elementary music for 37 years. I became part-time Church Music Director at First Baptist Church in Bronte, Texas in 1968 and married a wonderful girl whom I met in that church, Ida Lee Parker Ellis, in 1977. She taught elementary music in San Angelo for 8 years, taught private piano for several years after we married, and began teaching elementary music, grades pre-K through 2, 6 years ago. I retired after teaching last year, and now my wife still has her job and half of mine - Pre-K through grade 5, all this while finding time to accompany my vocal students and the choirs I direct. Ida Lee is a 1970 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University. I'm still directing the Ballinger Junior High Choir and several high school vocal students who sometimes comprise a choir, on a part-time basis. They also participate in UIL Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest and in TMEA auditions. My love to all of my classmates and former teachers of McCamey High. I have always held you in highest esteem, and have always been proud to be a graduate of McCamey H...Expand for more
igh School. English under Gladys Gilbreath was always a challenge, but college English was easy after the solid foundation she instilled in us. If you read my profile before this update, I apologize for not including anything about MHS the first time. I was on the Howard Payne portion of Classmates.com, and should have realized that this would be read by McCamey Exes as well. My love to all of the Howard Payne Family, especially my dear friends, some of whose names I can't even remember. I owe a debt of gratitude to each of these, and to the outstanding faculty members there, especially to Dr. and Mrs. Baker, Ivan Baugh, Dr. Belcher of the School of Music, and some who have passed, William Anders, Mr. Wooten, and Mr. Thiebaud. The wonderful students whom I have taught, some of whom have gone on to great achievements, and my lovely wife, are the joys of my life. I owe so much to McCamey High School and Howard Payne University because of the influences and experiences in each of these institutions that transformed my life and gave me the courage to become a teacher. May God's Blessings and Peace come to each of you through Christ Jesus, Our Lord. I would love to hear from any of you through classmates.com e-mail and will reply. Dale E. Ellis PS I will try to update this again when I am feeling more creative and can write more eloquently.
