Dale's Story
Life
Professionally - I live and work in Columbus, Ohio. I work at a small software company just 1 and a half miles from my house. Love that 5 minute drive. Decent pay, great people, casual attire including jeans. (typically, programmers and developers aren't dressy people) However, uncertainty marks my current professional situation as we seek additional capital. We're currently persuing an opportunity in the far east.
Personally - You may have noticed I'm still single. What can I say? I'm not good at relationships. As George Costanza used to say, "It's not you, it's me." Some great opportunities I let slip away. So obviously, no kids for me, but I do have a cat. Too much uncertainty in my life right now to start another major project. My mother sold her house meaning we (Mark and I) have cleared out two houses in the last 6 months. You know what they say, the trash can is the most effective organizational tool known to man. It's a little odd driving by the house and knowing I'll never be in there again. By now I've had my fill of going through basements, garages, rooms, closets, etc. for a lifetime. Planning a nice dinner with ex co-workers at Montgomery Inn and a road trip to the OSU-Purdue game in October as a diversion. OK, so the Purdue thing didn't exactly work out, but the dinner was great. Good friends, good food, good time.
Profile-ally? - Anyway, you may have guessed I'm a huge Seinfeld fan. In life, I see comparisons with so many Seinfeld episodes...Expand for more
. It drives some people crazy. I remember lunching out with friends at a chinese restaurant and when innocently questioned how I could eat General Tso chicken I uttered, "George likes his chicken spicy." (Seinfeld fans will get this - at least the ones at the table did, others not so much.) Reading the new Glenn Beck book now. He makes a lot of good points and still makes it very entertaining.
Health - ally? - My brother Ron passed away in Florida in April after a 4 year struggle with Lymphoma. It was difficult to watch him deteriorate before our eyes after chemo, etc. We console ourselves with the thought he is in a better place now. It also reinforced the importance of doing estate planning.
My cat was diagnosed as diabetic. This means insulin shots morning and night and a special diet. The shots are given in the loose skin at the back of the neck. Same indicators as people. I have in the past jogged until my knees couldn't take the pounding anymore. Too many neighborhood sidewalks. I've started getting up early for a brisk walk on the treadmill before work, that is if the alarm and the cat are able to motivate me. Feeding the cat when I first get up means I have a backup alarm clock. The preferred method is a paw to the face. A friend talked me into trying something called Master Cleanse. If you wish to see what I subjected myself to for 10 days at a time - Google it. In hindsight (liquid diet joke), it was rather foolish. P.S. I put my profile on Facebook.
