Dan's Story

My wife, Diane, and I live in San Juan Capistrano. Our son, Sean, and daughter, Kristyn, live in nearby Dana Point with four of our five grandchildren. Our eldest granddaughter is married and living in Oregon. In November they presented us with our first great granddaughter. Journalism was the focus of my life for several years. After Downey High, I attended Cerritos and Cal State Fullerton, all the time working at the Southeast News. I left the paper to become sports information director at Cerritos and then moved to ...Expand for more
Orange County to become director of Community information and Services at Saddleback College. I then became an assistant to the superintendent at the Oceanside Unified School District. After 19 years in the district office, I decided to go into the classroom and spent the last 14 years of my professional life teaching fourth and fifth grade. Our whole family loves the outdoors and we're never more happy than when we're camping or hiking together. I've hiked 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and all of the John Muir Trail.
