Dan's Story
My schooling included ST Michael's, Clubbs JR HS, Pensacola HS, Pensacola Technical HS and Pensacola JR College in Pensacola, FL, Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, CA and Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, where I obtained an AA Degree.
My military service included, basic training at FT Jackson, SC, Advanced Infantry Training at FT Benning, GA, Airborne Jump School at FT Bragg, NC and assignment to the 505 ABN INF, 82ND ABN, FT Bragg, NC. The 505ABN and 504ABN were subsequently detached and sent to Lee Barracks, Gonsenheim, Germany, to form an Airborne Brigade, attached to the 8th INF DIV, where I spent 29 months of my 36 month tour.
After military service, I was married to Olive Guffey in Pensacola, FL. We had 3 children, Michele, Melissa and Michael. We we divorced in 1981. Subsequently, Olive passed after a long illness from cancer in 1998 in the Joan Kroc Hospice in San Diego, CA.
My employment history included 5 years as a clerk at the U S Post Office, Pensacola, FL, Myrtle Grove P O and East Hill P O. Thereafter, U S Border Patrol Academy, Los Fresnos, TX, assigned to Chula Vista Station, Chula Vista, CA, as an Immigration Patrol Inspector (subsequently reclassified as Border Patrol Agent). Other duty stations included Bakersfield, CA, Temecula, CA and overseas assignment to San Juan, PR, as Criminal Investigator, INS. Returned to U S., as Special Agent-Anti-Smuggling Unit, USBP, San Diego, CA and San Diego Narcotics Task Force, San Diego, CA . After 24 years, retired in 1991.

Ddiego,CA, setting a new National Masters time 0f 49:12. I ran in the program until 1985. I also won the TAC National Masters 3000 Meters Steeplechase (45-49) at San Diego State University track in 1987. In 1991, I won the TAC National Masters 25 KM (50-54) at Mission Bay Park, San Diego, CA in a time of 1:31:19.
For many years, I also participated in the CA Police Olympics, International Police Olympics and World Police and Fire Games. I competed in Cross Country and the 1500Meters, 3000Meters Steeplechase, 5,000Meters and 10,000Meters on the track. I won over 100 medals, almost all gold with the exception of a few silver and bronze. Some of my records on the track were still standing long after I stopped competing. My running career extended into my 60's, until injuries, mostly Sciatica, brought it to an end. Although I couldn't train and compete any longer I kept running, not very far or very fast (embarrassing really). LOL
After retirement, for about 15 years, I assisted in the rescue of racing Greyhounds, mostly from Tijuana, Mexico and sometimes from AZ. My first two adopted Greyhounds were certified as Pet Therapy dogs and we did pet therapy at various facilities in San Diego county for about 10 years. Since retirement, I have adopted eight Greyhounds, having four at one time and presently down to two. They are incredible animals.
My military, professional and personal choices have enabled me to live in a lot of different towns, cities, states and countries providing me with great life, educational and cultural experiences that couldn't be obtained otherwise. My present residence is Navarre, FL
