Dan's Story

Life My life has been blessed. I have my health, my family, my wife and children, a career, and home that we love. It took me longer to get here, but I am very happy I am here. I have had challenges all along the way. I rose to many occasions, some I did not - but I learned and the next time was all the wiser. I love my life and wish you a happy life, too!! School Moved to McClellan Air Base in Sacramento, CA the summer before my freshman year was to start at Roseville High. Set a 4-year goal to get an appointment to a military academy and started down a college-prep path. Nerded out getting good grades. Did not meet a subject I did not like. Especially enjoyed classes and debate team with Mr. Ernie Titus. Loved playing on the tennis, water polo, and wrestling teams. Accomplished my 4 year goal with appointments to West Point and Air Force. Went to West Point!! Still stay in touch with my Roseville Tiger buddies. Roseville Tiger to the end!!!! College Went to the Uncollege. Of all the schools, West Point ranked dead last in fun on some national survey of most fun schools. Guess it just fit my intense personality. I actually liked West Point and felt like I was walking on hallowed ground with the opportunity of a lifetime. I would hear others complaining about the place, this and that. I could only keep pinching myself that I was not dreaming this up. I made some great friends. Spent one summer at the Military Academy Escomil in Ecuador. My favorite pastime was the West Point Glee Club. I got a lot of ribbing from some, but it was like the best kept secret. We got to travel to many different parts of the country. When we got there, we were treated like royalty. The girls and their parents thought we were the most eligible bachelors around. My best friends from the academy are Glee Clubbers. Duty-Honor-Glee Club!!!! Military Graduated West Point and immediately went on 2 months of leave to Europe. Reported to Fort Benning, Georgia for Infantry, Officer Basic Course. Was Airborne and Ranger qualified at Benning as well. First tour was with the 1-31st Infantry (2nd Infantry Division) at Camp Howze, Korea. Commanded a rifle platoon and then a headquarters platoon. As a rifle platoon leader I led live combat patrols into the DMZ of Korea. Was Imjin Scout qualified. Did live river crossings with M113 armored personel carriers across the Imjin river. Was called into fire fights along freedom's frontier at the DMZ and Panmunjon Freedom Village. Participated in Team Spirit 84...Expand for more
. Traveled to Seoul many times, Inchon, and Chejudo. Traveled to Tokyo. Learned to love Kimchi and Ramyon and to appreciate the Korean people and culture. Was next assigned to 1-54th Infantry (2d Armored Division) in Bamberg, Germany as Battalion S3-Air. Had the opportunity to go to NATO S3 Air school. Also planned and executed gunnery exercises at Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels, and Tennelohe. Ran the Tactical Operations Center during field operations. Went skiing as much as possible when off-duty to slopes in Germany and Austria. Hit the beaches in Italy and Spain. Became the Battalion S1/Adjutant in September and in November ran the Logistical Operations Center during NTC East wargames. The tactical operations center was overun by the OPFOR and my LOC became the TOC. Received accolades for assuming the role of TOC and continuing to manage the battle and the logistics. Learned the culture and the language by living off-post on the economy in a small village, Melkendorf, east of Bamberg in Bavaria. Nobody spoke a lick of English. Immersed myself in the culture in order to speak German better, eat more schnitzel, drink more German beer, and get in touch with my inner German. In short, I loved both overseas tours of duty. I can claim that I snow-skied in both Germany and Korea for the defense of the nation(legitimate professional development purposes). The best part of my military experience was the great people I met and befriended. I also loved the travel I was able to do in Asia and Europe. Business Started my business life in the Army described above. Learned leadership and management skills that I transferred to the business world at Alcon Labs in Irvine, CA. Made medical devices that restored eyesight. Continued my career in medical device management working for Chase Medical in TX. There we made catheters & cannulae for heart surgery. Next, I worked at Marlow Industries - maker of semiconducters that power the internet. Then, I worked with a management consulting firm. Next, I worked at Essilor Labs of America - maker of eyewear for 5 years. Finally, I have taken the plunge and gone into business for myself and it has been the right move. DPS Enterprises started in Jan 2008 and am already achieving success. Loving being an entrepreneur and providing incentive-based marketing solutions starting with effective websites, lead capture, incentive programs, referral generation programs, and a web-based customer relationship management solution.
