Mary's Story
I went into Navy after high school. Met my husband.
Married in February of 1980. Went to UofMN School of Nursing, graduated 1989.While at the U I went into the Minnesota National Guard. While in the Guard I went to Officer's Candidate School and became a 2nd Lieutenant and stayed in long enough to become a Captain. I went inactive during Desert Storm because I was pregnant with Zachary. Went back to the Guard after having the baby. Discharged from the Guard in 1994 . Worked at HCMC form 1988-2005. Master's Degree in Nursing from UofMN in 2005. Certified as Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist 2005. Brief stint at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul 2005. Quit St. Joe's. Started working for Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital 2005-present. Oh yes, I have 2 sons. Seth, who is 19 and is attending Metropolitan Community Technical College. Zachary is 18 and just graduated from High School. Zach is going to North Hennepin Community College in the Fall. I have 3 cats and 1 dog. My dog is a Corgi named Ralph and is is quite a personality. be lazy. Currently taking classes online to become a Legal Nurse Consultant. If I build enough of a client base I plan to work from home doing chart reviews for lawyers working on medical cases or being an expert
witness during trials. I have also recently started a private small business. It is called Healthcare for the Homeless. I provide preventive, diagnostic and primary care to people without Health insurance. I spent 17 years at Hennepin Count Medical Center, a teaching hospital, so i have had contact with most of the area practicing physicians so it's easy to get them to commit to 4 hours of voluntary time per month. I also have a vast network of nurse friends to draw from.That about sums up where I am at these days. Hope to hear from some members of the class of 1974. The school that won the AA state championship basketball title and had great players like Mark Lansberger, Brad Zilka, Bryan Pletcher, Gene Kelly among others. Mustangs.
Oh, one last thing added June 17, 2009. I am single again. I have divorced. My younger son just turned 18 and graduated from high school. I've served my sentence, so now I'm free.
