Daniel's Story
Life
I'm pet free at the moment. However, I plan to buy a dog and a cat down the road.
School
What can I say? I've always been a geek... I loved physics.
Workplace
Well... I joined the Air Force right out of High school. I didn't want to stick around and go to Rock Valley, and the boredom that Rockford presented me was too excruciating to endure much longer. After ten months in Biloxi, MS, and Hurricane Andrew, I went to Anchorage, Alaska for about three years. I met my ex-wife while I was there and we were married here in Rockford, while I was enroute to Spain. We spent three years over there, and I feel that's what killed our marriage. The first year we were married, I was gone for roughly 10 months, and when I was around, I was working night shift. We never had a chance to get into the groove of marriage and living together. Not to mention that most of the larger cities and towns around American bases are nothing more than constant parties. They don't reinforce the qualities one needs to be happily married. I feel this set the stage for us to be nothing more than strangers who lived together.
I got out of the military in 98 and we returned to Anchorage to live. I started working for Arco as a systems consultant (computer geek), and she (psychology degree) went to work for Akheela, as a drug and alcohol counselor at the local high schools. I quickly found myself surpassing the people around me and soon...Expand for more
I somehow managed to get two companies into a little bidding war over me. I doubled my income and became the new IT Manager of information systems for the North Slope of Alaska.
I would go to the Anchorage airport on Monday morning and they would fly me up to the north slope. When I arrived, I'd do a quick turn-over with my alternate and then I'd work for a week straight. I usually worked about 14-16hrs a day. Then the following Monday, I'd fly back down to Anchorage and have a week off to do whatever I wanted. It was like having a vacation every other week. I loved it. However, this also took a huge toll on our marriage.
In December of 2001, my ex-wife was recalled to Active Duty Army and sent to Germany. I went along for the next four years and played Mr. Mom for the duration. After our divorce, I returned to Illinois and became the Network Administrator for Ingersoll Machine Tools Inc. This company was perfect for my reintegration into the workforce. Everything was in a state of flux and being updated. This allowed me to become an intrinsic part of the process, and influence the direction of its evolution.
In March of 2007, my accomplishments were noticed by a company in Indiana, and I was approached with an opportuniy. After a few months of interviewing and processing, I became their newest addition. Things have been steadily improving since, and my roles have been increasing. Life is looking up! :)
