Daniel White:

CLASS OF 1973

Daniel's Story

Well this is unique...trying to condense my post-TFSouth life in a few words. I guess I'll try a high-level, mostly chronological view. Those of you who knew me in HS, I was an underground partier. Not one of the people in the "right" clicks, but we managed to have much fun without striving for the limelight. I meandered semi-aimlessly thru life in the 1970s and early 1980s, splitting time between work and continuing college...finally graduated with a computer science degree from NIU in 1983. All of this time was interspersed with wild partying, as many of us did during those easier times. My computer career took off and I ascended to senior management levels until 2001, when that entire industry changed for the worse, and the result was being laid-off from a job of 16 years. I took the next few years off and refurbished a log house in northern Wisconsin while concurrently caring for elder family. Some of you even visited that log cabin with me in the 1970s while we were in HS or just after graduating from TF South (my grandparents owned it then). I returned to work for GMAC in 2003 to 2006, when I was lucky enough to be laid-off again. Since then I have been fortunate enough financially to become semi-retired while working many types of less stressful jobs. And yes...I am still working on that darn place in northern Wisconsin. Its a beautiful, peaceful retreat on a large lake that I enjoy escaping to...when I need a break from Chicago's urban sprall. Never got married, altho there hav...Expand for more
e been a few women I should/could have tied the knot with. No kids, just assorted loveable cats and dogs. So am I am still looking for Mrs. Right? Maybe, but I definitely have toned down the hunt...she'd have to jump right in front of me. Life is fine with the good friendships I developed thru-out life spent traveling the country for work and play. Hobbies have mostly revolved among mechanical trends...from race cars and snowmobiles; I've even restored and sold a few old Corvettes for a time. I've delved into snow skiing, traveling thruout the USA and parts of Europe, and other like activities but soon return to a mechanical hobbie for my real "fixes". Now most of my time is spent riding motorcycles, ATVs, and anything else I get a kick from. I definitely do not need the "mechanical speed rushes" I was known for as a young man...I'm sure many of you went for a thrill ride with me! Now I even have a slow pontoon boat to putz around in and enjoy the wildlife and scenery. My 20+ years of competitive racquetball are over as the lower extremities are crying "enough already". Now its hiking or bicycle riding on the trails near Elmhurst or at that northern place. Overall, life has thrown me many curves, but I just adapt and try finding sucess and contentment in all that I apply myself to. If we knew each other wayback when...even a little...drop me an email or however they do it on this website. We can share how our lives have turned out. Now to really date myself...Peace&Out, Dan J.
