Daniele's Story

Life June 2007 - I am a Registered Nurse, and was working in a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit. However, since I lost my twins pre-maturely a few months ago, it has been impossible to do that job. I have since started a Masters in Nursing program. At the moment I cannot say that I am happy with my life, I think it will take a while to recover from losing my kids in such a traumatic way. I don't quite think I will ever be the same. On a brighter note, my husband has been wonderful and supportive...and believe it or not, this has brought us closer. He is now finally finishing up Law School here in Michigan, and we plan to move to Knoxville, TN once he is done. We will then try and start a family once more, and hopefully it will all go well...God Willing. School I have mixed feelings re high school. Things that seemed so important then, seem so insignificant now. I think that it is just part of growing up, and facing life and its responsibilities head on. The things I loved were Student Council, and all the responsibilities that went with it. I think that it has made me a better leader at work, and has enabled me to think outside the box. I also loved being a Yearbook Editor. When I look through it now, I am proud of the accomplishments we all made as editors. I think what people never understood was that we did it alone. The teacher left in the beginning of the year, and there I was...editor in chief. That experience taught me courage and responsibilty. The things I didn't like were the stupid arguements I had with friends, and how people could be so clicky. And for the record, I know most of my friends didn't go to prom, but I am glad that I did. It is an experience that will be with me forever. College I did pretty bad in my first years of college. My mother no longer ruled my existance, so I partied much of the time. That went on for quite a few years. How I graduated was a miracle to me. I have a BS in Health Administration. I remember once in my sophmore yeaar...Expand for more
at high school, Howard, who was my very first boyfriend, told me that once I was free from my parents rules that I would go 'Buck Wild". And I did. It was an experience that I never will regret. At 26, once I became responsible, I went back to nursing school. I did an accelerated program that kicked my butt. But I graduated with honors. And I must say that I am very good at what I do. I am now persuing a Masters degree in Nursing Management. Workplace I started working as a nurse recruiter while finishing up my Bachelors degree. I developed a program to bring nuses from canada to work in the US. I did a lot of traveling throughout Canada and the US for that job. The pay sucked, for the responsibilities that I had. I had always wanted to be a nurse, and speaking to them on a daily bass just added fuel to the fire. Once I was done with nursing school, I worked at Mt Sinai on Miami Beach. I did Cardiac Critical Care, and hated it. My dream was to become a Neo-Natal Nurse. You need experience to do that, and so I was hired at Plantation Medical Center to be a New Born Nursery and Mother/Baby/post-partum nurse. It was soooo boring, but I did for a year. Then we moved to MI and I had no problems getting into their Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit. It was not easy, emotionally or clinically. But I was in my element, until I got pregnant. Its hard to be pregnant when you know too much, and know ALL the things that can go wrong. I guess ignorance is bliss in that instance. However, I never in my wildest dreams thought that the worst of the worst would happen to me. I lost both my twins. They tried saving one, and I was on complete bedrest for a month in the hospital. Once my second baby died, and some time passed, I went back to work. I lasted 3 days. It was too much. So I am now taking a break from work, and starting my studies again. Military I have never done any military service, but my prayers are with those soldiers who are risking their lives in the middle east.
