Danny's Story

Thanks for stopping by everybody!... LIFE: On a September's day in 1956, a little Jewish boy was delivered to Mr. and Mrs. Milton and Joslyne Bieman at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach, California. (Supposedly being born was the fastest thing I've ever done in my life.) I am one of five children (#3 in the middle). We lived in Long Beach, Lakewood, and La Mirada and when I went out on my own, I lived in Orange County. Today, I am in Michigan where I am married to My Love Deborah. We have two dogs; Boo and Shilo. Our boy Boo is a Shiba Inu and our girl, Shilo is part Shiba and Chow-Chow. It's like having a Shiba but with a tighter rubber band and a purple tongue! Recently I was adopted as step-father to My Love's son, Tony, and his wife Samantha. I am so proud and verklempt* at the same time... You know, this gives me full rights to tell all the dad jokes I want. Really, it does! PHILOSOPHY: Life can be good when you're in love and PLAN to stay that way. Love your neighbor as yourself. SCHOOL: My formative years were spent growing up in the neighborhoods of Lakewood where I attended Betsy Ross Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High (in Bellflower), I started at Mayfair High in 1970, and continued on to John Glenn in Norwalk from 1972 on to graduation in 1974. Those were the days where you were allowed to play Stairway To Heaven in music shops. On graduation day, driving to commencement practice, I crashed my brother's car. I graduated uninjured however his car went to the crusher! RIP: 1957 Dodge Sierra 500 Station Wagon. What a waste of a classic! COLLEGE: I started at Cerritos College in Norwalk in the spring of 1975. I was an Art student seemingly majoring in electives. I didn't complete college like I had hoped although I did take some courses over and the ones I dropped; I attended long enough to actually learn something. So, not finishing doesn't mean you're finished, as I'm still learning lessons even at my tender age. Remember "CC Falcon" the two panel comic strip in the Cerritos College Talon Marks student newspaper? I drew that for about 3 years. WORK: I drew caricatures at swap meets at an early age. Upon figuring out what my 35mm SLR could do...Expand for more
(during and after college), I did a few photo shoots for fun and profit. At seventeen, I worked for an animal hospital and quickly transferred to the human arena working at Dell Drugs in Bellflower (my uncle's store). I did that for about four years and had a stint at being a Pharmacy Technician at Memorial Hospital in Long Beach and then it was back to retail with my uncle. I worked in a drafting and art supply store in Newport Beach for a time and also was a merchandiser of sorts for retail stores back in 1987. During that time, I again got back with my uncle for a while and then worked for Leisure World Pharmacy in Seal Beach until 1994. My "gramma" lived in the community there so, when she needed something, she got free delivery by Yours Truly! And then, somehow, I completed almost twelve years with Sav-On Drugs! I worked for Sparrow Pharmacy Plus when I relocated to Michigan to be with My Love. We married on February 4th 2007! For a short time, I sold insurance and was semi-retired or "half-worked." Then I drove and served for Boston Market and was on the phone; telemarketing for the American Cancer Society for a long while! I drove and sold spark plugs for almost seven years at a major auto parts store, too. AND presently, I am work-optional! I've utilized my talent as a cartoonist for fun and profit at various times in my life. When I was in California, I also moonlighted at the Curtain Call Dinner Theatre, taking reservations for "a night on the town." It was a dinner and a show! I was with those kind folks for as long as I was at Sav-On; almost twelve years. But way before all that, I helped my dad build children's play tables for sale. When I finally retire from whatever it is I'm doing, who knows? I may be found at some dinner theater somewhere dispensing drawings of auto parts! (See what I did there?) MILITARY: I was a Cub Scout for about 6 months. Does that count? -- For all who served and are serving, thank you. Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem! May God Bless America! *Verklempt (pronounced “fur-klempt”) means overcome with emotion, perhaps even choked or clenched by them. It's Yiddish. Maybe you should laugh; maybe you should cry?
