Daret's Story
School
I had few friends in high school, but the St. Johnians were my real pals, especially Dale Bastian with whom I am still close today. I don't know if I can say that I had a teacher that inspired me the most, but I especially enjoyed my English classes at CAHS. Afterall, I did follow in some of those teachers' footsteps.
College
My college days were some of the best days. It was during those years that I met many people who are friends for life. My roommate Marcia was and is still one of my close friends. Actually, there are many things that I fondly recall during my undergraduate years, and there are some things that I wish to forget. We had many great instructors at the small liberal arts college. However, the dearest to me were Dr. and Mrs. Benn (my campus parents).
Dr. Barnes, Mrs. Lela Gooding and others were some of the wonderful instructors whose classes I had the pleasure of taking.
Workplace
I have had many work experiences over the years. I have worked in a wide spec...Expand for more
trum of fields and have enjoyed most. I can truly say that working in Alabama as a production worker was great for the time that I did so.
Working as a teacher is a great field because we have the opportunity each and every single day to make a difference in the lives of many youngsters. It is a challenging vocation in today's society, but the rewards are of great magnitude when the difference you make is appreciated or acknowledged by the students.
Military
I must say that my military stint was truly some of the best days of my life. I have met people who are like true family members for life. I have had many aha moments in the military. As with any other situation in life, during my military stint, there were days that I enjoyed what I did, and there were days that I wished I were doing something else. Through it all, I look back on my military days with great fondness because during those years there were things that happened that I would never want to withdraw from my life experiences.
