Darin's Story
Life
Born in Durham, NC on May 23, 1979. Lived in Raleigh until 1981, then lived in Cary until 1986. At that point moved to Apex where my parents currently reside. Have 1 younger brother, Peerapon, who is a graphic designer. Now living in Greenville, NC with my two cats, Daltrey and Jonah.
School
Spent kindergarten through 3rd grade at AV Baucom in Apex. From there completed elementary school at Apex Elemetary where I was an alternate on the Scholastic Pursuit team. Went to Apex Middle school where participated in Jazz Ensemble, Battle of the Books, and Math Counts. In High school did basically everything except for sports and student government.
College
Went to UNC-Chapel Hill as the first Winstead Scholar, full 4 year scholarship. Majored in Biology, minored in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Sociology. Was very...Expand for more
involved in the Health Sciences Living and Learning program, which helped students who wanted to become health professionals. Graduated in 3 years and immediately matriculated into UNC Chapel Hill School of medicine, where I spent 3 years. Left medical school due to medical reasons and took a 1 year hiatus. I have just completed my 1st year in a PhD program at ECU's Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. I hope to do research with dietary supplements.
Workplace
During summer in medical school and my hiatus, I worked as a severely-underpaid veterinary technician at Timberlyne Animal Clinic in Chapel Hill, NC. Am trained in emergency animal care, laboratory work, animal dentistry, radiology, and surgical assistance. Now a full-time graduate student in James Gibson's toxicology lab at ECU Brody School of Medicine.
