Darnell's Story

I've been a specialty welder for 40 years. Some very tough and interesting work for various government contracts and industries. Being a diabetic since childhood it was difficult to concentrate and excell. But high school at Lockview Park was very different! Made a few new friends that really made school a bit more fun! The travels with Mr. Huber, Miss. Swayze in the History Club were absolutely the best part of my high school years! Not to mention that Lockview was a near new school and on a 4 class semester system made learning very interesting. Finding your way around was also a new experience. With locker on a different floor than some classes and ten minutes from one class to the next gave a new meaning to the word 'hustle'. Nice gymnasium (not that I did any phys-ed, being a hypoglycemic diabetic), assembly auditorium and yearly drama performances it made high school years a joy. And I won't forget Mr. Rowe the music teacher! What an awesome person and interesting past growing up in Chicago, Illinois... he was great! And that sense of humor all added to that great high school experience, for the most part wonderful years!!! The past 6 years of degrading health and the local doctors unable to care much about my medical past or current condition sent me to...Expand for more
Nash Cirossis of the liver. Forcing my body to start shutting down and melt away. Far from the physically fit days of my high school years where I threw a 220 lb Suzuki TS 125 motorcycle around the Robbin Hood quories and massive clay hills from the recent Seaway Mall construction site with my 135lb frame like it was part of my physical body to a weak frail 64 year old forced to go on disability. Recent tests at London University Transplant Hospital indicated that I would not survive a liver transplant because of my poor physical condition. Well between the Almighty God and the wonderfull transplant team at London University Hospital, here I am, a recent liver transplant survivor am on the slow road to recovery! Thank you Lord Jesus for the perfect timing of a donor liver that was a perfect match for me! I was shot up the 2 year waiting list to front of the line!! P.S. I would not have lasted long in my condition. A second chance! Tough going at the moment because I fractured my spine a few months ago and compressed all my 'C' disks resulting in tremendous pain. Slowly on the mend is my hope and prayers from hundreds of people, so much support from my wonderful wife Pam of 44 years, inlaws and children ( and their spouses) I may still have a great retirement.
