Darwin's Story
Life
After graduation I joined the Marines.
I met my ex-wife in 1980 and we got married, raised two fine sons and after twenty-some years got divorced.
I am regaining the love of life that I enjoyed in my youth as I escape the bonds of what I had convinced myself I needed to do in order to be a good husband and father. I wish I had rediscovered myself earlier...
Anyone who knew me would probably remember Darwin in high school as a searcher, and in my senior year getting involved in Buddhism... and would be surprised to discover that I became involved in reformed christian doctrine, and served as a deacon in two churches, and a sunday school teacher in three churches, and a sunday school director in one church... I had convinced myself that church was the right thing to do, and even though I served in so many ways, I never really could accept the basic doctrines of the churches, even though I studied them and taught them. As a person who is now openly agnostic, it would be hard for anyone talking to me to believe that I once played a role as a devout Christian... achings, like the golden rule.
I have worked in the computer field since I re-enlisted in the Marines in 1978, and have worked for the government my whole adult life (7 years in the Marines, and with the Postal Service since 1982).
I have regained a love of learning, and have opened my eyes to the wonders that this world has to offer.
I enjoy food (too much) and anyone who remembers me from high school would probably find it hard to believe that I peaked at over 420 pounds... I am on my way down in weight, and this year I crossed threshold, and have lost over 100 pounds.
School
After graduating from Stadium in 1975 I was away from school for many years and I went back in 1984 to major in Business Data Processing. A few years later when my brother Gilbert died, I lost interest in school, and didn't go back for several years.
This term I will receive my associates in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems. I am continuing my studies, targetting a transfer to a university to major in mathematics.
I am finally past the point where I was in high school in the math pathway, and I am enjoying the educational process.
My interest in school is evident when my high school GPA is compared to my college GPA... I am obviously a better student now than I was in my youth.
