More about Dave:"First of all, the truth about me (and everyone else, I hope) is that a person does not fit into a virtual text box. Having said that, enjoy this brief snapshot. I am studying biology (with some background in environmental science) in college. I have come to the conclusion that what matters most in this world is the understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the natural order of things. Besides that, I absolutely love to study how nature works. I love animals and have been known to follow a family of raccoons around for hours while taking notes. I hoot back at owls, try to mimic bird-calls, walk for hundreds of yards without looking up because I don't want to lose the tracks I am following, and I always try to find a way to move a spider to a place I am more comfortable with without killing it. I've got an awesome girlfriend. Whatever else is going on, she's always there at the end of the day, and we are there for each-other whenever one of us gets super stressed out. She has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen, and she is what keeps my life together if and when nothing else is making as much sense as I would like. I can only hope that you have, have had, or will have this sort of affection, and I'm really not sure what life was like before Jess anymore. I attend Humboldt State University and am majoring in biology with a focus on ecology and biodiversity. I just transferred here in fall of 2012, and so far I like it. I am a major fan of both making and drinking really good c...Expand for more
offee. I worked as a barista for Starbucks for several years, and towards the end of that I realized that coffee is not supposed to taste the way that Starbucks coffee tasted, so now I seek out and serve the best coffee I can find and have tastes that are altogether too discriminating. My friends and I have been known to drive to San Francisco (~360 miles one way) for coffee. Seriously. I know I would like to both work in the field AND teach someday (at the university level). Knowledge is the most important thing that may be given to one person by another, to take part in the enhancement of that process is arguably the most noble of professions. I think that marketing is the most evil industry, followed closely by defense contracting. I've got pretty awesome and interesting friends. I often feel like I am less like them than the rest of them are, but they are the best friends someone could have. A friend comes and bails you out of jail, a true friend is sits next to you in the cell and says "that was awesome!" John Muir is my hero. I try to justify all of my views as best I can, and am always open to civil challenge thereof. Have a practical reason why homosexuals shouldn't be able to marry? I haven't heard one yet, but fire away. The key word here, however, is civil. I love all of the writings of Mark Rowlands that I have read (most specifically, and the only entire title, 'The Philosopher and the Wolf', a must read for those that are at least somewhat philosophically inclined), and one of my very favorite life slogans comes from him, "It is only our defiance that redeems us". I recently realized that, for some odd reason, I hate old traditions but love to make new ones. For example, some of my friends and I tend to toast the winter and summer solstices. When I am unemployed, I stop shaving until I have a job interview. I always bring grits for breakfast when I go camping / backpacking. There's a lot of those. And remember, always remember: "...and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved." ~Charles Darwin".
