David's Story
Life
Born in Oakland, California, grew up in Castro Valley, attended Vannoy, Earl Warren and then Canyon High School (for one year). Graduated from Athenian School (then a boarding school) in Danville, CA. Worked as a printer of underground comics for a year and lived on Haight St. in SF. Moved to Chicago for four years and attended DeVry (A.A. degree). Played in the Cadillac Kids band, spent over 250 nights in night clubs in 1975. Worked for a year at Wescom in DownerÂs Grove.
Moved back to California in 1977 and started 25 years in the computer industry (see work biography). Started lifting weights and working out regularly in 1979. Made wine from 1980-1986 crushes (worked part time at Wine and the People in Berkeley). Got married, had a daughter Kelly in 1983. Bought a house in Santa Clara in 1983, lived there nine years. Played locally in a weekend band (The Megatones) from 1988-1992. Got divorced and later remarried, had a daughter Alison in 1992. sia, especially Japan, many times in 1997-98 while at Extreme Networks. Got divorced recently, have Alison with me three days a week (Kelly is almost 20 and living in Oakland). Currently doing volunteer and community work, making wine and collecting pinball machines. I started serving on the Athenian School Board of Trustees in 2002. Trying to start a cohousing community in the south bay/peninsula. Keeping in touch with Dave Poirier (Canyon), John Watt and Francis Barnes (Athenian), Cadillac Kids, Bruce Birmingham and Phantom Phil Holverson (DeVry), Gordon, Duane, Pru and Randy (IMSAI), John Robertson (HP), Dean Allara (Santa Clara MBA), too many to list from Sun.
I love my book club! We read ten books or so a year and even spend part of every meeting discussing them. I put solar voltaics on my house over a year ago. If I manage things right, I pay less than $100 per year to PG&E.
I drive the second car I ever bought new, a 1994 Acura Legend. It only has 160,000 miles on it, so IÂll probably be driving it for another four or five years.
