David's Story
College
Moved a lot for many years, so I kept changing schools: Miami of Ohio, U. of Cincinnati, Cochise College (southern AZ), Chapman College, West Coast University, U of Maryland (European Division), until finally graduating from U. of Phoenix. Am now back at UoP working on my MBA
Workplace
Most interesting job: went to Berlin, Germany to support an intelligence collection system. I had written some of the software in a major upgrade to the system, and got asked to go on-site. We were there from 87-90, so I got to see the Wall come down in 89. xception was the work I did on the Flight Management System (FMS) used for almost all Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft. The FMS was a very fancy autopilot that could even takeoff and land the aircraft. The FMS generated a fuel savings of better than 10%, so was very popular. I created the database used to mathematically model the engine and airframe performance that the FMS used to make all its decisions. After 4 years in intelligence again, I have just started (Jan 07) a new job working with encrypted communications systems.
Military
entered the Army in Jan 78, basic at Ft. Leonard Woods, MO, advanced training at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN, assigned to Ft. Huachuca, AZ, left in Dec 82 - don't really miss the military life, but had a good time while I was in. I was a computer programmer and worked on some interesting stuff - communications, intelligence, spectral analysis, engineering support.
