David's Story

I grew up on the westside of Baltimore in the triangular area bounded by Poplar Grove St., Edmondson Village, and Irvington/Yale Heights, and lived there for nearly 29 years. In 1979 my wife and I moved first to Harford Co., then Baltimore Co., and finally settled in southern Maryland in 1984 after a job location transfer. I have two older twin sisters still living near Baltimore who graduated from Western HS in 1962. Schools I attended were Lyndhurst Elementary, Gwynns Falls Junior High, Rock Glen Junior High, along with Poly. After graduation, I worked for most of my career as a Drafter/Designer for BG&E and successor parent companies Constellation Energy and Exelon, retiring in 2016 from the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant as a Senior Civil/Mechanical Designer. My wife, Caroline, and I were married on April 9th, 1977 and we have two children - daughter Carlene and son David Jr. I enjoy restoring vintage and antique toys along with model railroading to keep busy in retirement. d at times painfully shy, by high school I began to open up more and actually enjoyed some of the courses offered at Poly. For me, the scariest thing I had to do in school was get up before the class and give a book report, a story, or anything else the teacher required me to address the class on. Once, in 8th grade English class at Rock Glen, the teacher wanted everyone to write a story and give it in front of the class. She had all the desks arranged in a U-shaped pattern so that you had students looking at you from all sides. That was about the most nerve wracking experience I had and was I relieved to get that over with! It's funny that now I look back with fondness at all my school experiences - even the ones that were scary for me at the time. I remember many classmates going as far back as the first grade and actually had one boy in my senior class who had also been with me in that grade. My hope is that every single one of the kids I knew in school is enjoying a happy and successful life, and will continue to do so throughout their senior years. Cheers! :) -David
