David's Story
I never left Panama City. After High School I attended Gulf Coast Community College where I earned an AS Degree in Electronics Technology, In 1982 I started working for, and eventually owned, an audio equipment repair shop. I closed it in 1987 so I could pursue a career in the computer field. I worked in a local Catholic School as the computer teacher for a year and a half, then was offered a job at a local computer repair shop. job at Gulf Coast Community (now State) College. I worked at Gulf Coast for 9 years. In 1998 I was made an offer I couldn't refuse by the Florida Department of Revenue, and am still there. I'm a Distributed Computer Systems Analyst, which is a fancy Government name for a Network Administrator/Computer Technician. It's a great job, and pays pretty well for this area. I entered the DROP (Deferred Retirement OPtion) program in August of 2019 and will fully retire in 2024.
