David's Story

Hi Everyone, After graduating from JFK Class of 1970, I had no idea what I would do next. So before summer was over and through celebrating my new found freedom and lack of a better plan, I enrolled at the U. of Guam. After all those years of having to attend classes, I actually looked forward to going to class. Then I took up surfing and spent all my free time at Talafofo Bay soaking up the sun and riding the waves. My dad's tour on Andersen AFB was over at the end of my freshman year and he received "orders" to Sault St. Marie, MI. So I decided to stay on Guam, move into the dorms and continue my education not to mention enjoying surfing. After a year of record snow at Kinchloe AFB, my dad decided to retire from the Air Force so I was given the choice of returning to the states at gov't expense or pay my own way back. So, I reluctantly packed up and moved to Tampa, FL. I worked for the city of Tampa for about nine months before deciding to join the Air Force myself. I married Kathy Tolleson (JFK Class of 1972) in Aug. 1973 and we ...Expand for more
were married for 20 years. We have a daughter who is now 30 years old (Remember when we were told not to trust anyone over 30?). I ended up making a career of the Air Force and retired after 24 years in 1997. I met my present wife, Debara in 1995 while stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA and we were married in 1998. I now also have two stepdaughters 23 and 21. After my Air Force career, I went to work at a small company that brazed or bonded metals with alloys or ceramics in high temperature furnaces. We manufactured products for the semiconductor, medical and aircraft industries. I worked the past ten years running their inventory, shipping & receiving and retired last May. My stepdaughters are in their senior year at Sacramento State College and we're finding out what it means to be emptynesters. I just learned my oldest daughter is engaged and plans to be married in Sept. 2009. I'm now looking forward to finding out how it feels to become a grandparent in the not too distance future. Life is good!
