David E.'s Story
Life
Left Syracuse after graduation, which now seems like an eternity ago, and enlisted in the military. Those days there was no lottery if you weren't going to college (hey, that was me) the military always welcomed you arms wide open.
After four years in the military, during which the last two I was dating a beautiful girl who attended Old Dominion University, I decided to pursue this education thing and enrolled at Old Dominion University (the Harvard of the South...ha, ha). Old Dominion coincidentally was about 15 minutes from Virginia Beach (can you say beach parties, surfing and tanning being part of the curriculum).
After my freshman year in 1974, I married the girl that I had been dating (Steacey). During those five wonderful college years, I worked part-time for United Airlines at the Norfolk International Airport. After graduation (1977), I was promoted to United Airlines Corporate Headquarters in Chicago. Trust me, life on Lake Michigan was not comparable to life on the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia Beach.
In 1978, Steacey, and I, had our first child a son whom she named David Jr.(her idea). After four miserable, cold, snowy and windy years (kinda sounds like Syracuse), we sold the house, I quit my job (and wow, those flight benefits had been great)and moved back to Virginia to attend graduate school. After two years, I graduated with a MBA - Finance). I then accepted a finance position with "Sperry" which after it's merger with Burroughs became Unisys Corporation.
In 1987, we had our second child, a beautiful little girl whom we named Krystina (this one was my idea). Krystina obtained her Massage Therapist certification in 2007, then decided she would rather...Expand for more
work at a financial institution in central Virginia.
After 24 years, I am still employed at Unisys, currently as a Director of Business Operations for Federal Government Civilian Agencies. Prior to this position, I worked in Finance for about 21 years and concluded with a Director of Finance and Segment CFO positions.
David Jr. graduated with an Engineering degree from Virginia Tech and is now living in Georgia.
Over the last 30 years, my interests (besides my wife and children) have been Music (collecting records & attending concerts). 2007 was a great year for the music as I attended 13 concerts in total with two of them being three day festivals. It also allowed me to discover my newest favorite band called "Back Door Slam" (check their website as you might want to hear them.
I also have a love for motorcycles and cars. I began building custom bikes back in the late 70's and ended up showing mine on the National Circuit multiple times. I also have a Corvette Z06 that I love to take to the race track and compete against the other muscle vehicles.
My next love would be that of scuba diving (which replaced trying to surf at this age)which I got a very late start on just getting certified in the summer of 2007. Since the certification, I have dove in the Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Tortola and St. Lucia. I also love to cruise, which is another activity that I started late in life. In the last five years I have completed 9 cruises all in the Caribbean which is my favorite place to go (obviously). I also enjoy weekend getaways with with groups of friends.
And then (2012) there was retirement, which presents a whole different schedule, actually one that I kinda enjoy
