David's Story
after graduating from Forest Hills I received a B.S. from New York University in 1952 and was a member of Phi Alpha Kappa honorary banking and finance fraternity. I then attended NYU School of Law from 1952-1954 when I was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served on active duty until 1957. While attending navigation school at Ellington AFB, Houston, Texas, I met Jean Todd on a blind date in April, 1955 and w were married August 15,1959.
Upon completion of active duty in 1957 I returned to law school and received a J.D. in 1958 and was admitted to the New York Bar that year. I was fortunate to be awarded a Kennesson Fellowship to attend he graduate law school at NYU where i was an editor of The Tax Law Review and received my LL.M. (in Taxation) in 1959. Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C I served in this position until 1963, writing federal income tax regulations and working with the staffs of the congressional tax committees and The Joint Committee on Internal revenue Taxation drafting new tax laws and the accompanying Congressional Committee Reports. During this time I was admitted to to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States;the United States Court of Military Appeals; the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Claims. Having remained in the active reserve I was certified as a Judge Advocate and performed my duty in the Government Appellate Division in the Office of the Judge Advocate General, Headquarters, United States Air Force.
In 1963 I began a thirty year career in the Law Department of The Travelers Insurance Companies in Hartford, Connecticut, retiring in 1993 as Deputy General Counsel and head of the Tax Division.
