David Scott's Story

Life After High School, I went to OU for 2 years. Transferred to OSU - Okmulgee and graduated with a diploma in Accounting (Bachelor's equivalent). Worked as an accountant for 2 years. Went to Binger, OK. to learn welding from my brother (Tony). Worked in the oil field until the oil collapse in 1983. Moved to Fort Worth and continued to weld for a total of 13 years. Received an Associate in Computer Sciences in 1992 and have been doing that since 1992. I have been with EDS for the last 10 years. I am now with the Health Insurance Co. I started with before EDS. The EDS contract ended Oct. 31, 2007 and I opted to stay with the customer. I own a house in north Fort Worth and my children are grown. Damon has moved out of the house and is employed as an automotive machinist in downtown Fort Worth. He and a girlfriend are living in Richland Hills. My daughter is married and lives at Noble, OK. She has 2 step-daughters, a son and a new daughter. Her husband went to Iraq in December of 2005. She graduated from Baylor University at Waco. In December of 2006, I had major surgery done on my back. During my recuperation I started making chainmaille. Medieval armor. I now have a website and am making chainmaille on the side for profit. I hope to have more content on the site very soon. It is now December of 2008 and I am anticipating having a third surgery on my back on January 6, 2009. The pain is agonizing and it can make me leave work to go home and lay down. There is no other way to deal with the pain. (Feb., 11) The surgery went as well as could be expected. I am convalescing at home now, anticipating going to physical therapy and returning to a near normal existence. Work, play, more play. We are hoping to be able to sell our house in Watauga and buy one on an acreage out west of Fort Worth. A place where it is quiet and peaceful, where we can chill out and maybe have horses and chickens. For now, (May 15, 2009) the sale of the house is on hold. With the economic downturn i have lost my full time position and am working 25 hours at the same place (NHIC) instead of 40. The dream of the place in the country has gone on postponement for about 2 years. That is how long it will take us to pay off a couple of large loans we have and free up the money to make th...Expand for more
e payments on the new farm. I am looking at getting in on the craft fair circuit and selling my chainmaille crafts at craft shows. It might draw some extra income in and ease the load on my wife. If I loose my current job, I doubt I will be able to work again. So I am filing for medical disability and will do odd jobs for extra income. Life around here is never dull. I looked into filing disability and found that only working 25 hours still makes me ineligible to get disability. I still make too much money. So, for now, I am going to continue to work. Things may expand and rev up at NHIC and they may put me back on a full schedule. Maybe. For now I am in Physical Therapy and I am trying to scrape up the money to get a space at a craft fair. I am privately hoping we can get our dream place before I get so disabled I can't enjoy it, or we cannot get it because of my (our) health. Now, here we are at September, 2012. The weather has gone from the 100's to a mild 80's range. I was laid off on June, 1st, 2010 and I am drawing disability, now. I am having pain in new spots and am undergoing tests and procedures to determine if it is necessary to cut me again. The dream place in the country is on permanent hold. My son had moved to Florida to chase money and is now living in my house with his wife, step-daughter and son. It actually feels nice to have a house full again. My daughter and her hubby have moved to the northeast part of Missouri and are rehabbing an Amish house. Running wire and plumbing. Their oldest (Laura) has just graduated from high school (Gatesville, TX) and is going to school for a position in the medical field. The next oldest (Chelsey) is still in high school. Caleb has been officially adopted by Kenny. And they have a daughter, little Kailey. She is in kindergarten. She is such a big girl!! I am still making chainmaille accessories and jewelry. I am sending an app to the Keller High School for their big craft show. I was an exhibitor there last year and actually sold enough to nearly break even. It is September 2021. I am now retired and just loafing. I still make chainmaille. I amke trips to Traders Village in Grand Prairie and sell by word of mouth. The web page is gone, but I have a page on Facebook.
