Dawn's Story
Life
After graduation we packed our things, sold the furniture, and off to FL we went! Two days later we settled in Ormond Bch. I began work as an accountant with my sights set on becoming a CPA (thanks to Ms. Gahimer & Mr. Reid). Between work and college I was introduced to the man who would become my love and my husband  Buddy McKenzie. We were married in Â78 and are still happily married today. In Â87 I began work at the Kennedy Space Ctr. as an Admin. Assistant for Lockheed Space Operations Company Safety Operations Dept. I continued to attend college part time graduating in Â89 from Barry University. I continued in an admin capacity until Â91 when I was promoted to a Safety Engineer - responsible for monitoring all hazardous operations (hyperÂs, pyroÂs, cryoÂs, launch and landing) at the various processing, launch and landing areas. In Â94 I went back to school. In Â95 I graduated from Brevard Comm. College with a degree in Hazardous Materials Technolo...Expand for more
gies. In Â98 I was promoted to the Launch Control Center (LCC) and became a member of the Safety Control Console (SCC) and the Launch Test Team. I've also worked in the Orbiter Processing Facility as a Site Test Conductor in charge of all hazardous operations at the shuttle processing facility. My husband began working for LSOC in Â88 as a Shuttle Technician and is now Manager of the Fwd Shop for High Bay i and II where they are currently processing Shuttle Endeavour and Atlantis. Growing up in Glens Falls I never imagined working on the space program and playing a part in the construction of the International Space Station and, hopefully, the next manned missions to the moon. I still miss the change of seasons and the first snowfall - Christmas in FL is a cruel joke but one day weÂll retire and then itÂs off to the west/northwest for us! It would be great to hear from anyone who graduated in Â72. If you have a contact for class reunions I would love to hear from you.
