Dawn's Story
After Bloom I went to Prairie State for 2 years and then to the College of St. Francis in Joliet, where I got my degree in Communications in 1989. I met my husband, Tom, through a college friend (although Tom went to U of I in Champaign, not CSF) and we were married in June of 1992. We moved to Joliet, which is where Tom grew up. Tom is an engineer with IDOT at their Ottawa, IL, office. We have four children, Matthew (1995), Rebecca (1997), Nathaniel (2000) and Noah (2002).
I quit my job as a writer and photographer for a newspaper to be a stay-at-home mom when Becca was 6 months old. Needless to say, with 4 kids I am very busy. They attend Catholic school at our parish, St. Patrick in Joliet, so I am always volunteering my time in some way. I have been a room parent, lunch parent, you name it! Because of my degree and background, I currently coordinate all the publicity for the parish and school, which is a lot of fun, although it is a totally "gratis" position. y--I cantor and he plays guitar for weekend Masses. We are also part of a group called the "Polka Mass-ters," which travels to local churches playing Slovenian polka music at Mass (I know, I know, what's a dago girl doing singing Slovenian songs? It's for a good cause--a collection is taken up at the Mass and donated to Hospice.)
I don't get back to the Heights area very often, mostly just for family gatherings or to visit my mom, who now lives in Crete. That kind of puts me at a disadvantage because I rarely get an opportunity to come in contact with anyone from school. A funny thing, though, is that I saw Americo Petrongelli last summer at a dance recital. His daughter and mine danced at the same studio for a year!! Even funnier is a family vacation we took with Tom's family last August to Wisconsin Dells. Livia (Planera) Faso and her family were staying at the same resort! What a coincidence!
I look forward to hearing from people and catching up at our 25th next year!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT--25 YEARS!! YIKES!!
